[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

What's the best way to resize the EFI partition in Monterey, now that emptying the trash and moving the EFI backup folder for HackinDROM is no longer enough?
The EFI folder has gained weight with all the Intel Ethernet and Bluetooth ROM stuff. Maybe we need a light version for all the folks that don't use the item stuff. I understand the the appeal of the one size fits all approach but carrying all that dead weight is gumming up the upgrade process.

Thanks @CaseySJ . Waiting on some new SSD's. However, other than following the quick-guide, what can I do to migrate my applications and data cleanly?
Hi @CaseySJ Finally got some new WD SN 750 SSD's for the fresh install, but having an issue with my keyboard and mouse freezing during the on-screen Monterey installation. I get to selecting a wi-fi network, they keyboard/mouse freeze up. I tried a different keyboard/mouse and have the same result. Any suggestions here? Thanks!

I have found no issue with the EFI folder update process on hackinDROM. On both Monterey and Ventura I could empty the trash and get the auto-update process done; same as ever - EFI partition has to be mounted of course.
Caseys's (Intel WIFI) EFI folder was actually bigger in the past, we have since dropped some of the large (16mb for each OS version) AirportItlwm- kexts. You should be able to delete them all manually if they're turned off anyway. Probably best to delete the corresponding .plist kernel entries as well.

Good morning everyone. @CaseySJ help me....

I'm having a serious problem and I need to solve it, I have a Highpoint 3740 board, more than 3 years ago that worked perfectly on my HACK.
Today I went to update the bios of this card, everything went normal without problem.
Only now it doesn't load Raid on Mac anymore.
I booted from windows and there everything is normal, it shows the Raid is perfect.
On MAC I have already installed other versions of OC and also reset bios etc.. it does not load. When I go to look at the MAC preferences, the card is recognized, it just doesn't load the RAID.
What can it be ?
I need to solve this very quickly because I have work to execute on the MAC.

See the screen and how the card is recognized, would it be something to be placed in the EFI?

No load driver.

Thanks.

To refresh my memory:
  • You're doing a fresh, clean installation of Monterey 12.5.x on new WD SN 750?
  • OpenCore version is 0.8.3?
  • PlatformInfo credentials have been transferred to the new config.plist?
  • This is on a Z390 Designare?
  • Which version of BIOS is installed?
  • What is the memory (DIMM) configuration? 2 DIMMs? 4 DIMMs? Size of each DIMM?
  • Which WiFi/BT card are you using?
  • Is an Ethernet cable connected to either of the two 1Gbps Ethernet ports? (If so, please disconnect and see if that helps.)
Follow-ups:
  • Please post these screenshots:
    • OpenCore Configurator --> ACPI
    • OpenCore Configurator --> Kernel
    • OpenCore Configurator --> UEFI --> Drivers

First rule of BIOS updates: If it ain't broken, DON'T FIX IT!
Especially on work-critical machines.

See the screen and how the card is recognized, would it be something to be placed in the EFI?
Was there a driver to install on macOS to begin with?
If so, try re-installing it.
If not, and the card worked "out of the box", the BIOS upgrade has broken something and caused the driver to no longer attach. Which would probably require to compare IOReg before and after the BIOS upgrade to diagnose…

I need to solve this very quickly because I have work to execute on the MAC.
Can you downgrade the card BIOS to the previous, working, version?

According to the Highpoint documentation online, the following are needed:
  • Drivers --> Intel --> pre-installed. So no external drivers needed.
    Screenshot 2022-09-14 at 11.20.17 AM.png
  • Secure Boot --> disabled. This is already disabled in the BIOS on your system. So you can ignore this.
  • SIP --> disabled. Highpoint recommends disabling SIP in older versions of macOS. In Monterey it's not necessary, but try disabling SIP anyway. This can be done by changing csr-active-config to FF0700000as shown.
    • Reboot after making this change.

I have two Highpoint RAIDs, and I've experienced this a few times over beginning of Monterey. It's definitely a driver issue. Don't panic. LOL!

I actually contacted their support and was given a special driver not on the website. I believe it works for Monterey 12.0-12.3

You have to install, then allow the extension in Security Preferences, then reboot.

To refresh my memory:
  • You're doing a fresh, clean installation of Monterey 12.5.x on new WD SN 750?
Yes, correct.
  • OpenCore version is 0.8.3?
Correct. I copied my EFI file as you suggested to my USB stick.
  • PlatformInfo credentials have been transferred to the new config.plist?
I will double-check this when I send the screenshots.
  • This is on a Z390 Designare?
Yes
  • Which version of BIOS is installed?
F9g
  • What is the memory (DIMM) configuration? 2 DIMMs? 4 DIMMs? Size of each DIMM?
4 DIMMS each w/ 16 GB
  • Which WiFi/BT card are you using?
Broadcom
  • Is an Ethernet cable connected to either of the two 1Gbps Ethernet ports? (If so, please disconnect and see if that helps.)
Yes, it was. This was the issues. I am able to finish the set-up. Now I just need to move over my EFI. I think I am good for now.

Thanks @CaseySJ . I believe it was the ethernet cable.

According to the Highpoint documentation online, the following are needed:
Hello @CaseySJ thanks
I did all the procedures you indicated. Even so, it doesn't mount the RAID, the only thing that has changed is now in the extensions it sees the 3740 card, and it's not loading the drive. see the screen
