The Ultimate Low Cost Big Sur Hackintosh - Core i5 Dell Optiplex 3020 SFF

If anyone is looking for low cost, fully supported hardware to use with Ventura Public Beta.

HP ProDesk 600 G3 SFF

These have full HD630 graphics support and should be relatively easy to hack with Ventura.
Super easy to upgrade the NVMe and plenty of room for larger HDDs for storage and backups.

The price you'll pay for this complete PC is less than what a new RX560 will cost. You could try to
add a LP RX560 to your Haswell Dell 3020/7020/9020 but why not get this instead ?

Remember that you want one with the i5-7500 not the 6500. The 6500 has only HD530 graphics.
Gotta love all those front USB 3.0 ports. I always want at least 4.

Well, based on https://github.com/acidanthera/AppleALC/releases, I'd say it's very likely "Added constants for macOS 13 support" that broke something, but I'm just guessing, Verbose is really helpless in this case...
It's very likely other machines are afflicted too, the devs probably already know and will fix it in the next release — although it's not always the case (I had to stick to AppleALC.kext 1.2.8 in 10.11 because of a conflict with my Z68+GT210's HDMI audio, and I had to create a patch for 10.13+)...
EDIT: issue fixed as expected with AppleALC.kext 1.7.4

@trs96 - These are sweet! I managed to install Ventura 13.0 Beta on my HP ProDesk 400 G5 mini (9th gen intel) and EliteDesk Mini G5 (8th gen intel). Works great! Should be easy to install it on 7th gen too. For this price is a killer!

The 2GB version of the LP RX 560 sells for about $200 on Amazon.

Compare that to the price of the ProDesk 600 G3 with i5-7500

$49.31 less for the whole computer with HD630 graphics.

Welcome hoobash,

First thing, you have to have patience to make a hackintosh. Without that it's just a lot of stress and no fun. Slow down and don't expect instant results.

Next, you have fill out your profile in detail. dell/intel/onboards isn't going to be good enough.
We need: Dell Optiplex 3020 and the form factor for Motherboard. May be SFF or MT.

Then your specific Intel CPU such as i5-4570 or i7-4770 etc. Graphics should be HD4600.

You do have a choice of 9 different macOS versions from Mavericks through Monterey so that should be more than enough.
Hi TRS,

Are you sure Macmini7,1 sys def will boot Mavericks? I see that Mac mini was sold with 10.10 installed.

My current EFI (inspired from yours ;) ) boots 10.9 and 10.14 but using iMac14,2 instead of iMac15,1 (that machine was also sold with 10.10 installed).
It wouldn't boot 10.9 otherwise (forbidden sign).

I've never even tried Mavs on one of these Haswell based Dells. I do remember you saying it worked for you.

It's certainly not difficult to switch the SMBIOS and USB Ports kext to iMac14,2 is it ?

There are very few people today that are going to install Mavericks anyway. They're probably going to begin with Big Sur or Monterey. I only posted that info to show just how many OS X / macOS versions are supported. Very rarely does any hardware using integrated graphics have support in 9 versions. UHD630 would need to keep support in macOS through 2026 to match that. Will it happen? I doubt it. The 2018 Mac mini could get dropped next year with the release of macOS 14. Most likely will with macOS 15 in 2024.

Sorry, I thought you meant Macmini7,1 could run Mavericks.
I'm still using it for audio applications, so I currently boot 10.9 or 10.14 without having to switch the SMBIOS. Would have been great to have a dual boot Mavericks/Monterey. ;)
Anyway, you're right, it's no big deal and I can manage to have a USB key dedicated to booting 10.9 when I need it.
Cheers!
