MSI PRO Z690 A DDR4 + i7-12700K + AMD RX 580

Hi all,

I'm trying to boot a MSI Z690-A PRO WiFi DDR4 but regardless of the EFI I always get a grey screen with a working mouse pointer trying to boot Big Sur installer.
I had the same thing a month ago trying a B660 motherboard...

Both cases, different EFIS, same result: grey screen after the installer boots and moves beyond the verbose section.
Basically I am at the installer but the language selection doesn't load.

Can anyone help?
Is it a Bios issue?
Thanks a lot...
#250 avec la MSI PRO Z290-A WIFI et CPU 12700k et 12900k...

Hello, for an MSI PRO z690-A WIFI I used the latest EFI from NorthAmTransAm with o.c. 8.0 but I had to modify its SSDT-PLUG-ALT-12700K for another SSDT-PLUG-ALT in ACPI because with the 12700k and 12900k there are changes at the CPU level… I also changed the kext CPUFriend and CPUFriendDataProvider by an older version of an EFI from NorthAmTransAm because the last change made was not working with my CPU… I added AirportItlwm for WIFI support.
Make sure you apply all the bios settings as mentioned in post 1 of NorthAmTransAm and copy this EFI entirely without making any changes. I have already replaced the serials for you… This should work on the first try! Good luck!
Good work and thank you for reading. I'm going to go ahead and replace SSDT-PLUG with the standard to avoid this confusion along with adding a disabled OpenIntelWireless kext.

Edit: Updated the EFI post. Thanks for the tips.

Actually about CPUDataProvider.

The one you're using is wrong. It doesn't give you the full performance of the CPU. Can you retry mine attached here?

Also, make sure Intel Speed Step is set to Enabled in BIOS.

The one you're using gives us 3.9 GHz. The one I got from the community provides the 5.0 (close enough!).

Ok thank you I test this! yes I enabled Intel Speed Shift. you should edit your post because when you alluded to it you mentioned intel speed step.

Oops, I might have mixed up some terminology. I need to redo Post 1 but work is getting wild.

Fully disable Thunderbolt in bios as well. Have you added your own serial number to it? Are you using the 3.0 (blue port) for your installer? Also disable the GPE.TINI patch.

Also lets go ahead an update the info in your bio to z690, 12700k, etc... Want to make sure everyone can help.
Hi thanks for the reply.

- Yes I have updated the config with new serial numbers
- I have an i7 12700F
- I have disabled GPE.TINI patch, Thunderbolt in the BIOS and SSDT
- I've used the blue USB ports

Still stuck at the image attached.
If I use my EFI it gets to a grey screen with a working mouse pointer but it doesn't load any interface.

Can it be something in the Bios?

Very possible. Two things, I just re-updated the 080 EFI. Grab that. Secondly, I recommended resetting bios to factory and starting fresh. Has worked for another person here.

Hi there, thanks for your help.
I tried your EFI folder too and it gets stuck exactly where the NorthAmTransAm one stops.
