i9-10900k + Z590i + 6900 XT - Monterey and MacPro7,1?

Thank you! Sadly this no longer works in Big Sur and Monterey. I did have good luck converting to the Mac Pro SMBIOS definition! And all my DRM stuff works perfectly! Thank you for the help :) Now all that's left is to test the Thunderbolt ports. Cheers!
Would you be able to post details for how to do the above, converting to the Mac Pro 7,1? I have a z590i working on Monterey with the iMac20,1 definition but DRM doesn’t work no matter what I do from the various guides. I’m thinking going to the Mac Pro SMBIOS is what I need to do as well. Thanks in advance!

Hey! Sorry for the late reply! It's pretty easy!

  1. BIOS
    1. Disable iGPU
  2. config.plist
    1. Remove iGPU frame buffer if configured
    2. Generate new SMBIOS and serial for MacPro7,1
      1. Including new Serial
  3. Regenerate or modify your USBMap.Kext for MacPro7,1
  4. Install RestrictEvents.kext
  5. Use CPUFriend.kext and CPUFriendFriend to create proper power management for your CPU.

It's a little involved, but pretty easy! And with the shift to MacPro7,1, all of my DRM works!

Thank you very much for your EFI folder. I installed iMac20,2 system before, which is restarted from time to time. My PC can work normally after replacing your EFI, I think it should be the problem of Intel UHD graphics 630. But I can't recognize thunderbolt 4, is there something wrong with my settings?
You may need to adjust some setting in BIOS for your Thunderbolt controller to get it to work properly! I'm still trying to figure out the best settings for mine.

Thank you! I've tried following through with this and creating a new 0.7.7 EFI on a new USB 12.1 installer but it kicks me back to the BIOS boot device screen, never showing anything related to OC, etc. I goofed it up on the file-copy vs. somehow iCloud syncing the directory cleared the folder contents or something. All's well including DRM.

For porting the USB map I'm currently using -- it as simple as changing the iMac20,1 reference to macPro7,1? I couldn't find anything in my searches for how to convert a map to a different SMBIOS and none of the tools I found allow me to select a different SMBIOS, so I was using ProperTree to edit the old plist. Yep, that easy...change two references to MacPro7,1 and I was off to the races.

I have not made it so far as to run the CPUFriendFriend because I cannot boot as a 7,1 let alone do an installation. I'm really scratching my head here as to what I may have done wrong.

EDIT 1/15/2022: Updated with some additional diligence and success.

I went through the CPUFriendFriend guide and integrated the resulting kext, however I've noticed two things so far. First iStat no longer shows CPU temperature. Second, Intel PowerGadget does and as I sit here with only a web browser and that app running, my core temperatures are bouncing around between 33C and 55C.

I'm just posting this in case anyone else comes looking for information about those apps and temperatures post-install. I'm a little concerned but I think some of this has to do with the MSI's overclocking via bios. So far my DRM is rocking along fine now (thank you again, so much, for your reply!).

Hi stiligFox,

I have tried your EFI, the installation starts (apple logo progressing bar) and then the message on screen support.apple.com/mac/startup pop-up... Could you please have quick look at my EFI if you see something wrong ?
Motherboard : MSI Z590I UNIFY
CPU : i7-10700K
Graphic Card : R9 290X

Note : i have generated new smbios, modify to iMac 20,1 and using Monterey 12.0.1

Many thanks in advance !

Sadly right off the bat, I don't necessarily see what's wrong. Everything looks to be in the right place. I know however that your GPU is rather outdated and has not worked well since Big Sur, so there's not official support for your GPU and that might part of the reason for your issues. Do you have the iGPU enabled in BIOS?

That said, other than that, I can't think of anything else. You might have to create a new thread so that more people will see you issue and be able to help you! After moving over to MacPro7,1, everything's been running great on my build.

Good luck!

Thanks for the quick answer ! Actually this graphics card was working pretty well with triple booting win11, linux zorin and latest version of big sur on my msi z490i unify, i just upgraded to z590i unify motherboard...
igpu has to be enabled or disabled in bios ? May be something is wrong with bios settings, i'm using those settings (https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/345970-guide-msi-meg-z490i-unify/) Thanks again !

Oh cool! Yeah I don't know sadly D: I'm sorry!

For the iMac20,1 definition, you'll want iGPU on and to correctly configure the iGPU graphics for headless mode; I'd take a look at the Dortania guide as it will help you tweak the config properly for Comet Lake.

You'll also need to tweak some stuff regarding Thunderbolt, but I forget what I changed and where I found the settings.
