Z690 Chipset Motherboards and Alder Lake CPU

Now that we can have all cores/threads on, that would be a comparison between a) P+HT+E (AVX-2, as provided) and b) P+HT, AVX-512. Unless you expect hyper-threading to actually decrease performance.

ACQ-113 may require a patch and properties injection (SSDT here).
As far as I know, ALC 4xxx codecs are USB and should work without alcid layout using AppleALCU.kext (or the full AppleALC) but need a suitable USB map.

Thanks, had to map my USB to get audio to work and forgot that SSDT to enable the 10G

Really BAD news today. I know local Asus dealer and got their price list today. From the price list, it shows all AMD/NVidia display cards increase price again, from USD 50 to 150. 6800XT increases USD 120+.

The prices were already crazy. Recently TSMC increases the chip prices and the market prices increase a lot more. The second handed cards cost almost the same. So I have to cancel the plan to build one.

PS: Sapphire cards already stop selling here until they update new prices.

Merry Christmas...here in western Europe just the same...
And even worse is that DDR5 RAM if available, comes now into shops with prices similar to scalpers on Ebay.
490-600€ for a single 32GB DIMM (no ECC) !

Mac will be a lot cheaper now LOL

Buying a 6800XT costs more than a Mac Mini. That is really crazy.

Yes, GPU and DDR5 pricing and availability are just terrible. The situation may not improve in any meaningful way until second half of 2022. So a future Apple Silicon Mac mini or iMac might prove difficult to resist.

If it only had Bootcamp for Windows ARM, and support for all x86 Windows games.

Not likely at all. My company placed some orders of 8 bit micro-controllers since March 2021, and the delivery date is not yet confirmed!!!

And the recent EEPROM chips lead time is 72 weeks. LOL

I expect the condition may change only in 2023.

I am Apple user for more than 30 years now, but i am not willing to play this game of paying tons of money for hardly upgradable high-integrated hardware of somtetimes questionable quality. I really need a system which is modular and upgradable (like the ole cheese grater) and not a so-called pro system which costs more than my bike...

To the Mac mini: i was there and stumbled over these topics:
- video (which is propably not so bad) and over
- RAM (8GB is too less and a deal-breaker)
- TB and IEE1394 (need both for hardware)

Not to talk over a soldered-in NVMe...which i am totally allergic to, as this one died in my 2016 Macbook exactly one month after my AppleCare ran out and Apple wanted 735€ for the replacement of the whole logic board).

Fun fact: Apple stated that this could not be repaired and i brought it to a friend with a reflow station and repearable it was  (it is a known issue that the soldering of these is prone to micro cracks)

Long story short, my trusty hack ran ever since reliably, but meets more and more hardware and software limitations and now i need a refresh and all this here sounds really tempting.
I just need to get my hands on the parts...which is challenging.

In the US we have a retail store chain called MicroCenter. You've probably heard of it. They have been the best place to buy hard to find PC components. We don't have one here in Silicon Valley, but luckily my brother was driving through Ohio last week and stopped at one of three MicroCenters in the state.

They are selling i7-12700K for US$350 (which is $100 discount) so I asked him to buy one for me. They also had several AMD RX 6600 and 6600 XT units in stock, so we purchased a Sapphire RX 6600 XT for $520. That is a high price, but with the $100 discount on CPU, it was a reasonable total cost (in this market).

MicroCenter is also the best place to find DDR5 memory. They get new shipments about every week or two.

Bottom Line: At least in the US, a large retailer (not online store) may be the best place to check for PC components. It may be necessary to visit them on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
