Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Ouch, I can definitively understand the frustration with these Bluetooth reconnect issues. Some things to try:
  • CMOS Reset followed by configuring BIOS again (starting with Load Optimized Defaults).
  • If that doesn’t help, we can move WiFi/BT card to another slot.
  • If you have a real Mac, it would be interesting to pair all of these Bluetooth devices to the Mac and check wake-from-sleep behavior.
I'll try the above but I am also contemplating at buying just a Fenvi T919.

Hi All,

Since theatre has opened by me I am back to making promos using Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, Premiere pro, Toast 19 and Protools. They all are a nightmare under Monterey. Adobe is particularly bad. Long load times, menu issues. I switched back to Big Sur latest version using the same EFT (0.75) i had for Monterey and everything works. As an added bonus, my machine is much faster. Are any of you having problems with Monterey and the applications I mentioned?
I've been working in Bridge/Photoshop/Capture One pretty heavily the last few weeks with good results with 12.1 Beta 3 (21C5039b). Only thing I've noticed that is a bit of a bother is my mouse is "slightly" (and I mean slightly) jumpy when I click too quickly while using the heal or clone tool, but I think that has more to do with my graphics card. I adjusted the cache level and tile size in PS, and changed smbios from iMacPro1,1 to MacPro7,1, and it has subsided for the most part.

Adobe has been getting very power hungry... my 16 inch mac pro on Monterey with 16GB Ram and eGPU w/ Radeon FE is definitely being pushed to its limit, but even that is working fine with my workflow. Working with image files from 800mb to 3-4GB

Casey,

All is well here with the new build, but does this i9-10850k run hot or what!!
I tried the solutions in your troubleshooting section, but cooling this thing is a work in progress.
I installed the additional 4pin 12V power near the CPU and that seems to have solved any stability
issues I was having. I've been tweaking voltages, etc to cool it down, but today I ordered a larger BeQuite
Cooler as this i9 seems to be begging for it.

Last issue I'm struggling with is my Windows 11 install. Open Core 0.75 sees the EFI on my separate Windows SSD and adds an entry for it in the picker. Sadly when I try to boot Windows from OC it fails and I just get a black screen.
If I hop into the BIOS at startup and select the Windows drive as the boot drive it starts right up, no problem. I tried manually adding an entry for \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\bootmgfw.efi in the MISC section of Config.plist and got the same failure at boot. I definitely have TPM 2.0 enabled as required by Win11 and there are no "Intel Optane" drivers installed. ANy thoughts?

Thanks in Advance.

I dropped my base clock from 100 to 95 and drastically lowered my temps. I barely notice a performance hit. I also installed a Noctua cooler, but the freq change really dropped the temps.

Regarding the Windows boot issue through OpenCore, please try disabling AppleVTD as described in the bottom half of this post:

Casey,

Well that worked for the most part. I made the the changes to the config.plist and I now have a functional Dual Boot rig. When I enabled VT-d in the BIOS the z490 vision D refused to boot. After clearing the CMOS and "Loading Optimized Defaults" and re-configuring the BIOS (for the 5th time in 3 days) all is well. This board seems very finicky with BIOS changes, at least for me.
During all this drama I realized that I installed my exhaust fan backward (ughhh) and now that it is turned around I'm idling @ 36c (which is an improvement). I'll leave it as is until the new cooler arrives in a couple of days.

Thanks Again..

Hey Casey, my Vision-G rig I built Aug 2020, with your help has run flawlessly pretty much 24x7x365 (bar a few power outages). Running Catalina 10.15.7 on OC 0.6.1. It wakes, it sleeps, it edits my Lightroom/PS content daily with ease.

That said - "it's time" lol. I'm working on getting OC to 0.7.5 before attempting a Monterey install. I've upgraded the MB BIOS, updated Kexts & drivers and cleaned up a bunch of stuff in the config - still more to do. I've not managed a stable boot yet but come back to find you got a 800+ page thread bro!!! So I suspect my answers are buried in here. I'm gonna have to search back to where you upgraded OC although suspect you didn't have to do that one big jump :). I'm a good reader but 800pgs gonna kill me..... throw me a bone where to start reading? (lol).

Cheers!

Glad to hear, "it's time!" ;)

Two caveats regarding Monterey:
  • In many cases, the Intel I-225V 2.5GbE Ethernet port may not establish a connection. The other Ethernet port (1GbE) works properly. If both ports are needed, we recommend a USB-to-Ethernet adapter. These are available in both 1GbE and 2.5GbE varieties. In fact, Qnap makes a 5GbE version that's compatible with macOS.
  • Samsung NVMe SSDs may caused long boot times (60-90 seconds) due to incompatible TRIM. If this happens, we recommend switching to a different brand such as WD 750 (PCIe 3.0) or WD 850 (PCIe 4.0).
Finally, if you are having difficulty with the update to OpenCore 0.7.5, feel free to describe the problem. For Catalina we recommend setting SecureBootModel to Disabled.

Thanks for the 2x caveats. One difference between the D & G is I only have the one 2.5Gb port (ie: no 1Gb port) so I'll have to watch for that. I can fall back to using wireless if I have to.
As for the Samsung NVMe SSD - I can live with long-bootup times as I rarely reboot (assuming it does not also affect wake as well).

Ok - I now see how dynamic your initial post #1 is and has become somewhat of a reference for this particular platform. Awesome!!! So I'm starting with your 0.7.5 mini-guide........

I almost want to log a complaint here (lol). I just wasted 3days mucking around with trying to upgrade OC 0.6.1-0.7.5 by myself with ultimately still no success. Today I found your freshly written 0.7.5 mini-guide, downloaded the "G-Not-D" package, followed the couple of instructions and bam! (well kind of, I initially forgot the "Set SecureBootModel to Disabled" for Catalina users. I did that and all was well - My Catalina 10.15.7 on OC 0.7.5 booted straight up!!!).
So I'm typing this without yet having rebooted from that success ("thank you").

Cheers!

After upgrading OC to 0.7.5 (still on Catalina), I have no Ethernet connection (existing single 2.5GbE port connection on Vision-G). I'm able to switch on my Wireless - so no stress. I know it is expected in Monterey as you warned. It is worth noting that if I boot using my 0.6.1 USB - my Ethernet works great. Any thoughts about this scenario where it feels like an OC issue?

If there's something to try, I'd rather do it before I upgrade the OS (which I'm itching to pull the trigger :)). I can live with the wireless connectivity under Monterey if I have to, until we find a solution.

Thanks for the help as always.
