Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Some immediate thoughts:
  • Which motherboard are you using?
  • If Z490 Vision D, are you using the EFI from this thread?
  • The EFI from this thread disables Intel Bluetooth by default.
  • Is the Bluetooth USB cable connected to the Fenvi and to the motherboard’s internal USB header?
  • Which version of OpenCore?
  • Are you using HDMI via HDMI to HDMI cable? Or DisplayPort via USB-C to DisplayPort cable?
  • What is the make/model of the monitor?
  • Have you tried switching resolutions in System Information —> Displays?
This is Z490 Vision D

I am using the 0.7.4 EFI from this thread, but updated to 0.7.5 after getting installed.

I did connect the bluetooth cable to USB

Opencore 0.7.5 (hoep I am naming these right, but it's one newer that the one from the EFI).

Cable is an HDMI 2.1 cable. I get 4K 144Hz no problem with PC.

Monitor isGigabyte MU28 4K 144Hz.

In system setting I only see 2560x1440, 1080p and I think one lower than that (720p?). Default for display is listed as 2560x1440p. My mac mini, connected the same way, with the same cable, correctly assumes 4K 60p.

Also, if I connect to my 1920x1200 montor, I see the Apple bootup screen. With the 4K monitor I don't. I am assuming it doesn't like the 1080p signal it's getting for some reason.

Some suggestions:
  • Run IORegistryExplorer and scroll down to XHC section in the left pane. It’s best not to use the search bar in the app.
  • Do you see a Bluetooth device under HS11 or HS12?
  • Feel free to post screenshot of that section.
  • In some cases, moving the Fenvi to another PCIe slot can help.

The on-board HDMI port is limited to 4K 30Hz, which no one likes!! Suggestions:
  • Try a USB-C to DisplayPort cable. Connect the USB-C end to either of the two Thunderbolt connectors on rear IO panel. Both of them will drive a DisplayPort 1.4 monitor so 4K 60Hz is supported there.
  • If that fails, try downloading “SwitchResX” for Mac. It’s shareware or has a free trial period, so we can see if that will enable higher resolution.
However, use of USB-C to DisplayPort cable is highly recommended when using 4K monitor with iGPU.

OK. Thanks. I got the Bluetooth working after shutting down, powering off and rebooting, so we are good there.

I have a RX570 GPU coming so that should improve the video side of things. Is there anything I will need to do when i get the card? Or will the system recognize it and get it running for me?

Also, this computer is for my kid who wants mostly Adobe Apps and Scratch coding, etc. He asked why I did Catalina which was, a-it was the last Intel only version, and b-the tutorial here used it.

If I want to update, after making a carbon copy clone of the drive, is it a mess, or pretty straightforward?

Thanks for the help!

The RX570 is truly plug-and-plug in macOS. It is supported in Catalina, Big Sur, Monterey. Just before installing the card, change BIOS --> Initial Display Output to PCIe 1 Slot. Then power down and flip power switch on PSU to OFF -- this is the only way to stop electrical current flow to the board and prevent damage.

After making a clone of Catalina, we should switch or upgrade to OpenCore 0.7.5, and then we can perform an in-place upgrade from Catalina to Monterey. The upgrade should be seamless as long as OC 0.7.5 is properly installed. My advice is always to check whether OC 0.7.5 will boot existing macOS (Catalina) before beginning an in-place upgrade.

However, some third-party kernel extensions (kexts) that work in Catalina may not work in Monterey, so it's always good to install latest versions of apps before upgrading the OS.

Awesome. Thanks a ton. I already upgraded to 0.7.5, using a USB drive first, to verify it worked, and then copying it over to the SSD, so seems everything is working smoothly now (except for wake). For some reason if the monitor goes to sleep it takes several minutes of manipulating everything under the sun to get the image to come back. I just set up a vanilla screen saver for now.

I have a Vision G with a Intel 10850K, and I could NOT upgrade OC from 0.7.0 to 0.7.4+ with any success, I thank the folks here for the MINI GUIDE that got me booting.

Does anyone else have issues with iMac20,2 and Facetime showing the "Poor Connection". Is there a fix? 11.6.1

Yes I have exact same FaceTime issue. Caller can see me but I never get video back, only 'Poor Connection'.

Tried all the OpenCore iServices fixes and the tonymac iMessage/Facetime guides but no luck yet.

Big Sur 11.6 / OC 0.7.5

If you are using WiFi, we can check signal strength by Option-Clicking on the WiFi icon in menu bar. It will look something like this:

During a "poor connection" message it would be helpful to check the values in red box. RSSI is the Received Signal Strength Indicator. We can look here to interpret the value:

Yeah I have a really healthy connection so no issue there. This is actually reassuring seeing someone else with same issue cos I've been going crazy trying to troubleshoot.

@ThrasherOSX please remember me if you figure it out!
