Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Thanks Casey!

FYI,

Now that everything is running again I upgraded to Monterey and tested I-255V (Ethernet 2). It does not work for me either. Network tells me the cable is not plugged in, yet the light next to the cable is blinking. I'm running:

BIOS F20
OC 0.7.5
Monterey 12.0.1

I'm still scratching my head over this one! Puzzling indeed. Meanwhile I now have two of these:
  • One for my Z490 Vision D
  • One for my 14" MacBook Pro

Please post a link to the exact item you ordered so I can add it to a no-go list.

Meanwhile, here's a USB-C to 2.5GbE Ethernet adapter that works exceptionally well:
hi, CaseySJ

usb-c was deactivated after remapping the ports now is working

the item that I ordered was that one back here on the topic that you pointed out among others. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081TY1WQX/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

thanks for that.

Just thought I'd share this as I thought it was amusing with all the with what is compatible and what isn't and the workarounds moving from different version of macOS... I have been stopped dead in my tracks because I like the mouse I'm using.

I have a spare ssd with a fresh working install of 11.6, I was going to clone it and update to 12 and mess around with it but I have just found out my G700s mouse is incompatible! o_O wft@#$#%$@#!!! Logitech hasn't updated their gaming software and you need to use GHub... and my mouse is apparently unsupported.

So until my mouse dies or Logitech decides to support their own crap, I think I'll just hang around on 10.15. :lolno:

Casey,

I purchased a WD SSD 4TB and connected it to the internal SATA port. I used Carbon Copy to copy 2.5 TB of photos to the new drive. I then imported them all to Lightroom Classic in less than a half hour. When I tried importing from the External Enclosure TB3 drive it took close to four hours so there is a problem with either the TB3 or the enclosure.

I also checked on TRIM. I have TRIM on the Sabrent PCIE Gen 4.0 I TB drive (Boot and macOS Monterey) and on the Samsung EVO 970 PCIE Gen 3. For some reason no TRIM on the new WD 4 TB SSD.

Hello @kemicat,

Some immediate thoughts:
  • Do you have Windows and/or Linux installed?
    • If so, do you experience the same GPU issues in those operating systems?
    • If you do, then it suggests an issue with the GPU.
  • How many PCIe cards are installed?
  • Have you tried connecting power to the PEG header on the lower right corner of the motherboard? This is typically optional, but it provides additional power to the PCIe subsystem. It's normally recommended when more than one GPU is installed.

Hi! I do have Windows installed and haven't had issues, but also never really use Windows.
I have the GPU, and I have the fenvi, and an USB-C expansion card, which I don't use anymore, because some of the worst shutdown problems happened when plugging my audio interface into that card.
I haven't tried putting extra power, but that Vega 64 is my only GPU (although i'm sure a power sucker).
Do you think i should remove the usb c expansion card entirely and plug the optional power in??

after upgrading to 12.0.1, i find the sound disappears.
anybody know how to solve this issue?

I'm having lots of trouble with my system. I did a test install of Big Sur which went very well but I then wanted to switch to a larger disk, add more disks, and add Linux for dual-boot. I'm finding that it's impossible to get into the boot menu or the BIOS. The system just hangs at the logo screen. With absolutely everything unplugged, NVME drives removed, even graphics card removed, I can get into the BIOS screen - sometimes. This is with BIOS F20. Should I consider downgrading to F5? Or is there some other solution to this issue?

Any pointers appreciated!
