Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

@m4rk0

There was a post here recently from an Apple employee who asked a question about his Hackintosh. Apple is a large and diverse company whose employees no doubt have equally diverse hobbies and interests.

Some advice:
  • Do not talk about Hackintosh.
  • Do not worry about having a Hackintosh.
  • Do not worry about your employment chances being any higher if you own Apple products.
  • Companies look for candidates with relevant experience, initiative, teamwork ability, and motivation.
  • Whether you own an Apple product is irrelevant as long as you have the skills and experience for the job.
  • If you look at the job listing, you will see that nowhere on the list does it say “must own an Apple product to qualify”. That would be so far out in left field as to border on being illegal (i.e. a violation of labor laws).
  • Focus only on skills, prior experience, motivation, and personal drive.
The interviewer will not ask if you own an Apple product, but they can ask if you have “used” an Apple product that the job description applies to. In that case, talk about the experience with that product, but not about who owns it.

Some advice:

Thanks for your words & time.
So, if you were to choose which approach to take when submitting your application, would you simply use the iCloud account already owned even if a hackintosh is tied to it?
Agreed, no need to mention anything which refers to the hackintosh world...
EDIT1: sorry I just realized you canceled my post asking to create a new thread. I thought about it for a few days, but was unsure where to post it
EDIT2: is there a section of the forum where the post has been moved..?

I would be okay to use my iCloud account to submit an application even under those circumstances. If you’re uneasy about it, consider talking to a current or former Apple employee.

First Thanks Alot

for providing wonderful work and support.

I have an issue
I updated to Monterey (OC 0.7.5)
after that problems arrived.
after a few minutes, it randomly reboots.

after that, I went to reinstall Monterey.
But Installer Freezes after a few minutes.

tried to reinstall Big Sur and it's good to go.
But When i switch to windows it stuck at the Gigabyte screen after I select Windows at OC picker

Any clues or suggestions?

Hello @snkj

Let’s address the Windows boot problem first. If you go to the OpenCore 0.7.5 mini-guide in this thread, you will see a note for Windows users at the beginning of the guide. Click the link shown there and follow the instructions to disable AppleVTD. Then try booting Windows again.

Thanks, it's done, windows working fine after disabling AppleVTD
What about Monterey?

Before installing Monterey, please change SecureBootModel to Disabled. After it is installed, we can change it back to Default.

Hi! I was sent here after asking for help in the another hackintosh forum about my random GPU restarts/screen shutdowns. I wish I saw this thread before building!

I am hoping you can help me narrow it down, because I built the computer in the US (originally in Sept 2020) but then moved to Europe where parts are expensive and difficult to obtain. So I read your build and saw that maybe my hard drive wasn't the best choice for my OS (Samsung 970 EVO) and not to use "pikera" for my Vega 64 (I'm not) and that the Fenvi T919, which I have, causes issues waking for some people.. But I don't think any of these are related to the issue I'm having? Correct me if I'm wrong?

Basically, the GPU seems to switch off semi-randomly. Happens more often when using the ports on the front of the computer, or the USB-C expansion card, I get the DumpGPURestart error in console and a lot of "AMMuxedDevice Disconnected" issues. Once it's switched off I can only reboot the computer to regain functionality.

There are a bunch of Console screengrabs from the moment of shutdown and more details in the original post (<--linked).

So, if you really think this is a certain part, I will go looking for it, but it is quite difficult and expensive for me to try replacing all 3 of those when I'm not sure they are related. hoping you are familiar with this issue and much gratitude in advance. <3

Hello @kemicat,

Some immediate thoughts:
  • Do you have Windows and/or Linux installed?
    • If so, do you experience the same GPU issues in those operating systems?
    • If you do, then it suggests an issue with the GPU.
  • How many PCIe cards are installed?
  • Have you tried connecting power to the PEG header on the lower right corner of the motherboard? This is typically optional, but it provides additional power to the PCIe subsystem. It's normally recommended when more than one GPU is installed.

I also use SoftRaid with two 4-bay external SATA-to-USB enclosures. Will check for any issues with Monterey 12.1 soon. In the meantime, some notes:
  • Sabrent Rocket 4.0 can be problematic under heavy load as stated here.
  • The OC 0.7.5 EFI is using HfsPlus.efi from Monterey, as also disclosed in the OC 0.7.5 mini-guide. We can always replace it with the same file from OC 0.7.4 EFI folder to see whether it makes any difference during boot.
Replacing HfsPlus.efi with file from OC 0.7.4 EFI seems to speed up the boot a touch, and I no longer need to clear NVRAM twice, but it still hangs, albeit for a shorter amount of time, at this line before login screen:

AMFI: */System/DriverKit/System/Library/dyld/dyld_shared_cache_×86_64hisadhocsigned.

Occasionally a few <private> lines appear below before login screen

Intuitively the hang feels like a driver issue with the card. I have 2 screens, and the login will appear on one or another randomly, and sometimes it will be off center on 2nd screen. once I login everything appears fine.

Sleep/wake works in the short intervals of trying it out this morning, although I had the same warning about restarting the computer because of a problem when I came into the studio today. So something is not right there, had to cold boot.

Otherwise everything seems to be humming along nicely on the system.
