Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

You could also Wait for Z690 it’s coming soon. I have the Z590 Vision D, and it works. But it is not the best implementation by Gigabyte. And I feel their quality assurance has taken a turn for the worse at least during the pandemic.

The board works but not as well as the Z490 Vision (Thundebolt hot plug is broken in macOS). You have to put the system to s3 sleep first and wake it up in order for hot plug to work in macOS. Thunderbolt Hot plug works fine in win/Linux however.

And if I remember correctly you won’t have use of the comet lake iGPU via Z590 if you needed to use it.

I don’t want other people to buy this board and get frustrated from its quirks. I actually have to run an unreleased BIOS for better stability. I would actually recommend the Z590 MSI Ace or the Z590 Asus HERO. Up to you.
I have been working on a Z590 Vision D. It is a very frustrating experience. Hot plug for TB4 does not work, sleep crashes on wake-up after 2nd time sleeping and boot time into post can be very long. At this point I will probably sell the board. I only paid $217 on eBay brand new. I have the Z490 Vision D and it works perfectly.

Late to this tread but I need to know before I buy a supported GPU and a new M.2 drive for my Z490 Vision D will the latest BIOS (F21b) work correct for hackintosh (I need use of the Thunderbolt USB-C ports for music production). If not can I flash to F5 without any ill effects for hackintosh?
The Thunderbolt ports are going to be used for Ethernet via a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter - Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter. The reason for this is because I need to use AVB for a Avid Carbon interface. A few Avid DUC forum members have had success with this set up but the stock Ethernet ports failed at providing AVB and this was their working solution.
I've built a few hackintoshes years ago but I used MultiBeast previously and I'm not sure if that process will give me use of Thunderbolt and all available I/O. Also what is the cheapest GPU I buy that will work natively will macOS cause I'm trying not to break the bank.
Any other thoughts are ideals are greatly appreciated.

Unibeast and Multibeast haven't been updated for Big Sur/Monterey so they are not even an option today. They would still work for Mojave or Catalina but are not going to give you working thunderbolt. A specific custom SSDT among other things is required.

If you won't be using Monterey and don't need a powerful graphics card there are many low cost options. Will depend on how many monitors you'll need and how quiet it must be. You can also use the UHD 630 iGPU if you'd like to.

I can use Catalina but if getting Thunderbolt to work is a real problem but is doable I would definitely need help and instructions.

I've had problems with a few audio plugins in Pro Tools using the internal graphics in Windows10 (UI wouldn't load) so I just assume to stay away from it long term but I can try it for time being.
I'm only using 1 monitor at the moment and don't plan on using 2 in the foreseeable future. Reasonably quiet is good or at least as good as my GTX 660. What budget priced GPU do you recommend?

For Catalina and Big Sur the lowest cost options right now are Kepler workstation cards. Otherwise you can use something like an RX 560/570 for "future proofing." The Kepler cards lost support in Monterey. What is your budget range in US dollars ?

The Visiontek RX 560 2GB sells for $181.99 on Amazon. If you have good case airflow it won't get too noisy. Gives you the option to add extra monitors later on if need be. Has native support, no drivers to install.

Note: if your monitor has no DisplayPort input and only HDMI then you'd need to buy an inexpensive min-DP to HDMI cable to connect with. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FBHKKHW/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

You can find everything you need in this thread and get help here too. Many people use the Z490 Vision D board and have Thunderbolt fully working.

I'm trying to stay under $300 for the moment. If I wait a few months I'll probably go as high as $500 or so.
I'll try to use the internal graphics for now but I'll upgrade in the near future.
Thank you.

I assume these people are using Open Core and not MultiBeast or whatever it's called now?

I love native support. Will this card work in the latest macOS?
