[Guide] Intel NUC7/NUC8 using Clover UEFI (NUC7i7Bxx,NUC8i7Bxx,etc)

Hello,

been inactive and stuck with OC 6, haven't ready this thread for almost a year (got into FPV Drones, haven't stopped flying and building since early this year)

Is Wifi and BT now working seamlessly on the NUC8? I have a wifi/BT card on the NVMe slot, works perfectly, wondering if its worth using the NUC 8 wifi instead.

Also, any recs on how to upgrade OC 6 to 7? my OC 6.0 is perfect, everything works flawlessly. I tried fresh install of Monterrey on OC 6, but no luck.

Thanks in advance.
There are some issues with Monterey and Bluetooth in general and that's either using the onboard intel chip or a Broadcom card like I think you have. It has to do with Apple rebuilding the Bluetooth stack for Monterey and existing kexts not working. There has been some back and forth about it here which you can go back a couple of pages and read about. We found using a newer version of the BlueToolFixup.kext took care of the incompatibilities and everything is working again.
If you are interested in running Monterey using OpenCore then it requires version 7.4, the most current release. I’ve uploaded my version without the kexts needed to enable a Broadcom add in WiFi Bluetooth card on page 89.

I have already added Layout-id 8 to AppleALC 1.6.4. Download the latest release and it should work.
Here is my EFI folder, it's not ready yet, but most devices should work.
Hi, I used your efi folder everything is ok except boot time : 1 minute 10 s.
Do you experienced the same?

Not to answer for @wern but longer boot times in Monterey has been reported quite a few times. The thought is that it has to do with the kind of SSD being used and that some kind of fix is needed. I haven’t experienced it yet but there are quite a few posts about it from people using different hardware.

FYI

No joy with Monterey update.

Running a nuc8i5beh. I recently updated from OC 68 to 73 ran for a few days without issue. Tried the upgrade and it failed. I then updated to OC 74 (no Bluetooth), and tried the update again. The update runs and then reboots. It goes through it's paces, but when it is done I am still running Big Sur. I tried resetting NVRAM a few times and also used titanium onyx to clean out any old kruft, but still no luck. I will keep waiting and watching, but wanted to share my experience to date

I had a similar experience with my Ryzen machine. I could run the installer but when it came to the first reboot I could choose Macintosh HD drive it created but then it would just reboot to Big Sur. I ended up creating an install USB drive with Monterey on it and it worked the first time.

I'm glad you are still keeping this thread up-to-date and alive. As always, thank you.

Ha! My first instinct was to create a USB install..But when I went to boot it up, I stopped as I figured a bare metal NUC booting the Monterey install would shut down rather quick...but I just tried plugging it in, letting opencore present my boot options and when I selected the USB stick, I got into the install program. I did not move forward (will do that after work tonight). Lesson is sometimes don't overthink things!

USB update to Monterey completed without incident! Once that was done I also updated OC to 7.5. (my usb Bluetooth module was not working after the MACOS update, so I figured I should give the OC change a try). So far no issues

Uploaded OC7.5 to page 89
update OC 7.5 working ok.
no more lockups ( I saw you got rid of FakePCIID.kext ).
slow boot 1 mn 13 s was faster before Monterey.
Wifi and bluetooth hardware are broken in my NUC can not test them.
