[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

The UHD630 iGPU can drive 3 external displays:
  • Thunderbolt Port 1 --> use a USC-C to DisplayPort cable --> connect to DP monitor
  • Thunderbolt Port 2 --> use a USC-C to DisplayPort cable --> connect to DP monitor
  • HDMI port --> use HDMI to HDMI cable --> connect to HDMI monitor
If you would like to buy an AMD GPU, unfortunately they will all be extremely expensive. These cards are supported:
  • RX 4xx
  • RX 5xx
  • RX 5xxx
  • RX 6800, 6800 XT, 6900 XT
These cards are not supported at this time:
  • RX 6700, RX 6700 XT
  • RX 6600, RX 6600 XT
Thank you so much

Hi,
first of all, thank you for the detailed guide and continuous updates!
As far as I understand, iOS devices aren't recognised on the Thunderbolt / USB C ports because USB 2.0 is disabled to meet the port limit of macOS? What do I need to do to disable e.g. HS09 and HS10 and to enable HS08 and HS13 instead? If this question is already answered somewhere in this thread, please let me know what keyword I should use for my search
Please try attached SSDT.

I'm going to take you up on the offer. Attached my two machines from my sig with serials removed. i will test with USB and hopefully will work Monday with new macOS.
Attached is the updated EFI for Z390 Aorus Xtreme. Please try this from a USB flash disk after copying serial numbers back into PlatformInfo --> DataHub.

To update the other EFI folder (Z170X-UD5) simply follow the procedure below. It will be good to become self-sufficient with OpenCore upgrades.
  • Follow this guide.
  • But completely replace the EFI/OC/Resources folder with the one included in the attached ZIP. This folder is common across all Hackintoshes.
  • Use OpenCore Configurator 2.52.0.0 and set its preferences to 0.7.4 Release Version.
    • The title bar of OpenCore Configurator should say 0.7.4 Release Configuration as shown:

My current setup with the Z390 Designare is working perfectly, but as I wanted to add one more SATA disk drive, I've installed a two port PCIe SATA 6Gb/s card with a JMicron JMB582 controller and it works perfectly when I run Windows, but it only detects one disk drive when I use it in macOS (now running the latest RC 21A558).

The PCI Express card shows the two ports as two separate "Generic AHCI Controller" entries in System Information > Hardware > SATA

I've connected a 120GB Kingston SSD drive and it's detected perfectly, either if I connect it to port 1 or port 2, so both ports are running in macOS.

But when I connect my new 10TB WD Red hard drive it appears as "Unknown" under Generic AHCI Controller SATA. It doesn't matter to which port I connect it.

Any ideas of why it is happening?

Both drives are working fine in Windows, the problem is with macOS.

;)

Some comments/questions:
  • Do you have a link to the 2-port PCIe SATA card?
  • Which version of macOS?
  • After connecting the WD 10TB HDD, boot macOS and run IORegistryExplorer, then look for your SATA card -- it should be in RP21 or RP19 or one of the RPxx nodes.
  • If you use the 'search' field in IORegistryExplorer, be sure to click the little 'x' on the right side of the search bar when the search is done.
  • Capture and post a screenshot.
Here's an example (but I'm using SAT0 where my SATA drives are located):

Thanks, I will proceed with the xtreme first and then update the older machine with the guide referenced. I appreciated all the help and guidance

Thanks @CaseySJ always helping us!

I'm running latest macOS Monterey (21A558) from a 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe drive, but I have another 500GB WD SN750 NVMe drive with macOS Big Sur and starting from it the result is the same. My third drive is a 500GB Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe drive that runs Windows 11 Pro and there the drives connected to the PCIe SATA card are detected.

Using both M.2 slots gives you only 3 SATA ports in the Z390 Designare and I have 2 WD Red 3TB and 1 WD Red 8TB drives connected.

I bought the PCI SATA card in Amazon and the only link I can provide is the product link in the shop.

Code:
https://www.amazon.es/dp/B099ZCXJLQ/

It's exactly this one and I haven't found any vendor website for support

Here's the capture of the entries for my SATA card in the IORegistryExplorer, with AppleAHCI entry selected

PRT0@0 has the Kingston drive connected and it's reported my macOS
PRT1@1 has the WD Red 10TB drive connected and it's not detected

And here's the internal SATA ports in the Z390 Designare

Hey all,

Been struggling for a while now with this card. Got it on amazon - an off-brand FENVI T919 I guess.

Long story short:

It was working "ok" on Catalina. Not great, but ok. Airdrop was a bit flakey for file transfers about half the time. Sidecar, messages, bluetooth devices, handoff all work ok.

I was using ethernet for internet until recently when I had to switch to wifi. Wifi speeds were bad and intermittent - it would stall and pages would frequently hang and not load. I got better wifi speeds and reliability recently by removing the wireless card in this motherboard - i guess there was interference.

For me, Airdop is super useful, and it's always shown up and see my other devices. But, when I try to actually transfer files, it hardly ever initiates the transfer and when it does, it usually fails.

Anyone else have this sort of issue? Wondering if the card is just bad, but everything else seems to work ok.

oh yeah, and sidecar doesn't seem to work anymore either.

I'm on OC 0.7.4 Big Sur 11.6
