<< Solved >> Anyone had any luck with Asus Prime Z490-A

Well everyone I came across a program called USBDeview in Windows (actually running 11 right now) and according to that program EVERY SINGLE USB PORT is COMING IN AS USB 2.0 not one single usb 3 device plugged in is registering as a usb 3!

Its gotta be a faulty motherboard no?

UPDATE: Did a LIVE chat with ASUS and they are beating around the bush. Want me to update the chipset driver in windows even after i explained its happening on multiple operating systems (linux now included as well) LMAO

I don't think Asus officially support Linux or macOS so it's no wonder they would respond with a blanket Windows-centric solution. Although, I could be wrong.

From reading through previous posts I think you might assume that Hackintool automatically detects whether a port is USB 2.0/3.0 - I believe it only detects whether the connected device is USB 2.0/3.0. When I run Hackintool all ports seem to be listed as USB 3.0, just like you. This is probably just the default - you need to change those via the dropdowns in that column to whatever they should be according to your specs. That said, it doesn't seem to matter if you change those or not as the important factor is whether or not a port is used (turns green) when you plug a device (USB 2.0/3.0) into it, and the resulting portmap kext still works as expected.

I ran some windows applications and still everything coming in at usb 2.0 speed. asus recently agreed to replace it! im awaiting an upgraded unit getting a rog strix z490a now

It might be interesting to see if I get the same result running USBDeview - I'll try it next time I boot into Windows. Apart from that, good luck with the new board and the potential new issues ;)

Curiosity got the better of me: In Windows USBDeview correctly identified two drives - a USB 3.0 and a USB 3.2 - when connected. Everything else is showing as USB 2.0, including a Logitech keyboard/mouse. If a connected USB 3.0 drive also shows as USB 2.0 on your board then returning it may well have been the best choice. Cheers.

Just came across your posts.

Looking at your issue, have you ever considered it could be your connectors or possible faulty PC case wiring that is the cause? Have you also checked your BIOS to make sure that the likes of XHCI hand-off is enabled?

I think Asus' suggestions are not wrong. Updating the BIOS and/or Windows drivers to the latest version can possibly help in solving the issue. At least give them a try before you consider it is 100% a faulty motherboard issue.

Well the chipset drivers were already the latest version in windows, and again running a program in windows called USBDeview sealed the deal by only detecting everything at usb 2.0 or lower speeds. its defintly the motherboard!

Bios was already up-to-date, xhci hand off not off, but thanks for the suggestions. I thought it might of been the wiring but just prior to installing this newer build i had an x67 motherboard running in the same case with no problems so has to be the board! :)

Still reading through the thread so not sure if this will help.. but here's my Prime Z490-A USBMap.kext (zip) you're welcome to try. Did it back in Catalina iirc, has worked fine with BigSur and now Monterey.

Everything 5gbps and below is mapped (both headers and rear). The USB-C port is mapped. The 4 10gbps lightblue/teal ports ARE NOT (got a lot of random disconnects when they were used so just disabled now instead).

My current setup uses the 2 standard USB2 ports for wireless mouse/keys dongles. I also use a massive 16 port USB3 powered hub to plug everything else in (audio interfaces, usb drives, memory keys, ilok, etc) that is connected to the USB-C motherboard port via a USB3-C to USB3-B male cable.

GL!

My problem is a faulty motherboard. I’ve been waiting three weeks from ASUS to get replacement. They upgraded me to a ROG strix z490e but only cuz my board was not in stock, received the board yesterday and it’s DOA. ASUS support is a real mess right now none of their techs no what they are talking about, language barrier is a big problem too, anyways that’s my update for those wondering

Are you certain your PS/U is OK? And (yes, I know this is basic stuff but still easily overlooked) did you triple check all the connectors were in the right places? :D
