Excited to become a part of the Hackintosh community!

Until now, I’ve only had a work computer (27” iMac) at home that I do professional editing on. In the coming weeks, I have to move that iMac into our office and I’ll be without a home system. At first, I considered waiting it out for the new M1X Apple computers, but I can’t wait anymore. Plus, I’d rather build my own and save some money.

This will be my first Hackintosh build. And I am using the CustoMacPro Buyer’s Guide section as my baseline build. If anybody sees an issue, please let me know!

ASUS ProArt Z490-Creator 10G
Core i9-10850K (should I upgrade to the
Core i9-10900K???)
Sapphire RX 580 Pulse 8GB
Thermaltake Slim X3 Low Profile (Air)
Crucial Ballistix 3200 (64GB)
Samsung 960 EVO NVMe M.2 500GB
Corsair 4000D Tempered Glass Mid-Tower ATX PC Case - Black (not necessarily married to this case. Just want something black and simple)
Corsair RM 650x Watt
Fenvi T919 Wifi/BT 4.0 PCIe
Currently own: Apple keyboard, Apple mouse, LG 34" curved monitor, speakers, and Caldigit Thunderbolt 3 hub

I’ve got a healthy budget to make this happen as I need this build to be able to handle the editing I do. A lot of 10-bit 4K footage, R3D files, and minimal graphics work. (My workflow is 80% Premiere Pro, 20% After Effects).

Looking forward to everyone’s thoughts!

It won't make much "real world" difference to upgrade the CPU to an i9-10900K. Put the $120 savings toward a better graphics card. I would get something newer from AMD other than an RX 580 for 4K video editing. Paying from $700 to $800 for a card that old is not a good investment. They first came out in 2017 for less than $200.

RDNA2 is preferred. RX6800 if you can afford one. Note that the 6600 and 6700 are not supported by Apple so don't buy either of those. If you get the RX6800 a better PSU, like a 750W, is also a good idea.

The Slim X3 is completely inadequate for an i9-108050K. Look at a Noctua Tower cooler.

Here's one of the best value Noctua Coolers. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y88BNYZ/?tag=tonymacx86com-20
It should be adequate if you are not over-clocking the CPU.

Thanks for all the great info!
I took your advice and stuck with the i9-108050K and also purchased the Noctua cooler. After a few days of searching for the RDNA 2 GPU's, I think I'm just going to stick with the RX580 until (hopefully) prices come back down. I found one for about $450. I'd rather overpay a couple hundred dollars vs buying the 6800XT for $1700 when MSRP is half of that. My graphics work is very minimal anyways, I believe I can get by with it for a while.

Since this is my first build, is there anything extra I should purchase that I'm not thinking of? I've got all the main components on the way. Should I purchase additional tower fans (one I purchased comes with two), thermal paste, extra screws, tools, etc?

The cooler comes with it's own TP so use that. If getting the 4000D case it should have plenty of fans and all the screws you'll need to install everything. Once it's built test the temps when stress testing and add a fan or two if need be.

Thanks! I forgot to edit my initial post. I decided to go with the NZXT H510 instead.
