Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

The Gigabyte z490 Vison D is selling for too much money today. But the Vision G is available.
Would you recommend the Vision G model ?

Basically, I am looking to build a 5ghz i7-10700k or i9-10850k
computer for Music and Video production on home projects.
for personal use. Not commercial.

So I am looking for a good quality motherboard that is easy to setup, stable and reliable.

I may want to add a thunderbolt card in the future.
What thunderbolt card would you recommend ?

Also is the WIFI card removable and can it be replaced with a Broadcom BCM94360CD card ?
Does audio and toslink work fine ?
Is it fully working ?

Reading this User Build should answer this question. Have you read it yet ? What applies to the Vision D will also apply to the G. It's proven to be stable and reliable when used for a hackintosh. Use HackinDROM to create your Vision G EFI folder. Yes, it's easy to setup.

To quote this User Build...

The Intel CNVi WiFi 6 / Bluetooth 5 card that comes preinstalled on the Vision-D should not be removed. It can be used in Windows and Linux. Moreover, experimental drivers are available even for macOS. Because the module is plugged into a CNVi socket, it cannot be replaced by a Broadcom or other non-Intel or non-CNVi module.

The Titan Ridge Thunderbolt controller will work with macOS without the need for any firmware flashing. It will allow device to hot plug as well. CaseySJ

This card sells for $90 new on Amazon.

In the UEFI —> Drivers section simply uncheck OpenUsbKbDxe.efi, save the confit.plist, and reboot. Do mouse and keyboard work in OpenCore Picker?
I added this driver accidentally in OC 0.7.3. Will remove it next week when OC 0.7.4 is released.

Hi all,

I post a question here as it's a very active and knowledgeable thread.
Basically I have an ASRock RX 5500 XT 8GB plugged into a MSI Z490-A PRO.
All good but the video card PCI three doesn't show any naming but it shows pci-bridge@0 (see attachment), this way I'm unable to properly attach the RX 5500 XT SSDT.
Do you know how to solve the issue?
Thanks a lot!

** Some Tidbits on Next Generation **

With Z490 inventories drying up and Z590 not being a compelling upgrade, we can look ahead to November (around the 19th) when Intel is expected to release their 12th Generation desktop processors, Alder Lake, and the top-end chipset, Z690. And before saying another word, it must be mentioned that there's no guarantee either of these will work with macOS. But they are the next generation and worth examining.

A leaked image of the Z690 chipset reveals some especially interesting features:
  • PCIe 5.0 (16 lanes from CPU)
  • DDR5 memory support
  • x8 link between CPU and chipset versus x4 today, but some questions remain on the exact meaning of x8 DMI 4.0
  • 5Gbps Ethernet tied to chipset (optional feature for motherboard vendors to choose)
  • WiFi 7 also known as 802.11be. Some of the benefits (source):
    • Will this be available at launch using a Draft Spec? Most likely not. Z690 will start with WiFi 6E.
    • Multi-band/multi-channel aggregation and operation to deliver higher spectrum and power efficiency
    • Better interference mitigations
    • Higher capacity density
    • Higher cost efficiency
    • Support up to 30Gbps throughput, roughly three times faster than Wi-Fi 6
    • Support of 320 MHz transmissions, which is double the 160 MHz of 802.11ax
    • Release date of WiFi 7 spec is 2024

Alder Lake CPUs:
  • Hybrid design with High Performance cores (P-Cores) and High Efficiency cores (E-Cores)
  • High performances P-Cores:
    • Golden Cove architecture that is an update to:
      • Sunny Cove (Ice Lake processors)
      • Willow Cove (Tiger Lake processors)
      • Cypress Cove (Rocket Lake processors)
    • Hyper-threaded
  • High efficiency E-Cores:
    • Gracemont architecture based on Intel Atom
    • Not hyper-threaded
  • Configurations:
    • Alder Lake-S: Desktop PCs
    • Alder Lake-P: High-performance notebooks
    • Alder Lake-M: Low-power devices
  • Alder Lake-S Desktop Processor Configurations:
Model P-Cores E-Cores Physical Cores Total Threads
i9-12900K 8 8 16 24 (P-Cores x 2 + E-Cores)
i7-12700K 8 4 12 20 (P-Cores x 2 + E-Cores)
i5-12600K 6 4 10 16 (P-Cores x 2 + E-Cores)

(Only P-Cores support hyper-threading.)

Which RX 550 XT SSDT are you trying to attach?

I've attached the SSDT.
It's a RX 5500 XT 8GB and not a RX 550.

What you see in IOReg in the previous message is the system without ANY SSDT.

Hi there,

thanks a lot for your reply.
Still the SSDT doesn't load.
You still get those pci-bridge@0. The SSDT doesn't have any name to attach to.
You, for example, don't have the Device PRP1. You have pci-bridge@0.
Unless you don't have some names instead of those pci-bridge@0 the SSDT doesn't attach.
Is there a way to turn those pci-bridge@0 into something of 4 letters?

Thanks again.

Two requests:
  1. Screenshot of the same section of IORegistryExplorer as last time.
  2. Run this command in Terminal log show --last boot | head -1500 > ~/Documents/bootlog-1.txt, which will create a file in Documents folder called bootlog-1.txt. Post that file.

The Version 2 SSDT is actually doing exactly that...or trying to.

Also try V3 attached below, which is an optimization of the previous V2.
