@pieropontra thank you for the answer! I have another question, do you have any recommendation on which m2 nvme drive to use ? was thinking of the 970 EVO or SN850 WD Black. (want to install 2 x 2TB, one for windows other for mac)

Here is my setup so far:

Note that the 3090 will be used for the windows side and disabled on mac.

Are you connecting through a KVM or have some other video capture device? The RX580 should be GFX0 and the shikigva args shouldn't be required. DRM works on my build without Whatevergreen
Well I disabled that device from device properties, but RX-580 is still attached to GFX1 not sure why.
Edit: I think I know what is going on. I have SSDT where I set RX-580 to GFX1 because the KVM interface was attached to GFX0. So I need to rename the GFX1 to GFX0 in my SSDT even though it is in the second PCIE slot, correct? GFX0 is no more after I disabled the display.

Yes adjust the RX 580 to gfx0

my mobo is PRO/SE so it does have an internal VGA header (not connected to anything), but the "ASPEED ASMB9-iKVM" is a Virtual Media over LAN I believe.

I don't think you can go wrong with the 970 evo plus - I went with Sabrent Rockets which are less expensive and perform great but I guess if you're buying a 3090 you don't really care about cost!

I'm 100% happy with my Prime X299-A II btw - I had a good experience with MSI X299 Pro with the exception of NVRAM, the ASUS is even better, and with working NVRAM.
I also worked with a Gigabyte X299 Aorus Ultra Gaming Pro but that board had a broken pin in the CPU socket and only saw 3 of the 4 memory channels unfortunately.

Of them all, this ASUS has been the easiest and most stable. As long as it has the features you need (the right numbers of slots and interfaces etc - I wanted 3x NVME but didn't care about TB3 for example...) it should be great!

+1 for Sabrent. Samsung drives have issues with Trim but I think WD ones are okay. Refer to https://github.com/dortania/bugtracker/issues/192

You can also click on Network in About This Mac - System Report and it should show you all your available networks. One has to be en0. If en0 is missing you can delete your network preferences.plists then reboot/reset nvram and it should rebuild them properly
Hi 7hina, where would I find my preferences.plists so I can delete them and then reboot/reset nvram to try that option out? Let me know what you can, thank you.

Like other said, stay away from 970 evo, you need the latest firmware to run it and since you’re buyin new it’s better to buy something else. I got a 970 Pro, works fine no problems, but Sabrent are cheaper (even if judging your build seems you don’t care about costs ahahah). General recommendation: X299 is PCIe 3.0 so any 4.0 drive will be underutilized, like 980 pro or SN850, but you could still buy for future usage! SN850 seems to be more reliable than 980 Pro and faster (actually 970 Pro has better nands than 980 Pro) but Sabrent still cheaper. I’d say, if money no object, go with SN850! Unless you want to go the extra mile and grab an Intel Optane (mine will arrive tomorrow). I got a D15S with dual A12x25 and it’s incredible how this thing performs while stayin super silent! G Skill memory is best in class, but you’ll save a lot buyin Crucial or Kingston / HyperX and they run just as fast. If you don’t plan to game on macOS (who does?) or use GPU intensive apps, I’d say go for 5500XT (cheaper) otherwise try to snag a 6800 6800XT 6900XT on amd website at msrp, you’ll end up with a dramatic better value for money. They usually drop cards on their website once a week on Thursday. I was able to do so helped by a telegram tracker bot, I paid 650 for 6800XT instead of a boatload of money they sell on eBay or retailers.

Anyone knows exactly how NVMEFix affects SSDs' power management? I read around and it seems it just sets SSD's power states to lowest possible Watts when idling (which is basically never if it's your boot drive). It seems to not affect anything while system is sleeping (to my knowledge, in sleep mode every device is shut off a part from CPU in C-State lo power and RAM) or (obviously) shut off. I disabled it in my EFI to set it up for Optane (hasn't yet arrived) and I noticed no difference (boot drive is around 50°C but it sits under the GPU M2 slot so it seems to be a normal temp for 970 Pro | the windows drive is idling at 35°C but it's not utilized in macOS obviously and it's on a M2 slot away from other hot parts). That said, do you think it's safe to not use NVMEFix? It basically seems to be totally incompatible with Optane so I have no options to use it if I wanna use Optane. Anyway maybe they fixed compatibility in newer releases so I'll try to boot with it and check. Can anyone explain what's the exact purpose of this kext and risks involving not using it?
