Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

If you mount the Windows EFI partition in macOS and open it in Finder, what files do you see? Here's the EFI folder on my Windows disk:

Unfortunately, I do not see any file in the finder. I must have deleted them accidentally. And the Microsoft folder is not in the backup. And it is not in the recycle bin because I emptied it. Little luck today? From where can I get a new Windows EFI?

Hello @CaseySJ
It was exactly my problem:
44.1 & 48kHz seems to work
88.2 & 96kHz squealing and random distortions
Beyond that, only frying!

I kept the "CPU Base Clock" setting at 100.0 MHz (not auto) as @Ayvan advised me.
Uninstalled / Reinstalled the UAD program.

Sounds good to me, I can switch between different sample rates and up to 192.
Maybe I installed it in a hurry, I don't remember.

Thank you very much for your help which UAD refused to give me.
You were essential in the construction of my project
I was able to work a little bit, try my new machine and its plug ins, then after a restart the problem comes back again.o_O

Two suggestions:
  1. If you are using OpenCore 0.7.2, try disabling AppleVTD by following the procedure in this post.
  2. If that alone does not help, the extreme option is to flash the Thunderbolt controller or use a Gigabyte GC-Titan Ridge add-in-card and flash its firmware.
    • It's much easier to flash the firmware of GC-Titan Ridge than that of motherboard.
Do not do option 2 at this time. Just try option 1.

I am not familiar enough with Windows, but try searching the web for such keywords as:
  • Repair Windows EFI
  • Rebuild Windows Boot Loader
  • Reinstall Windows Boot Loader
  • Reinstall Windows EFI
I Use Acronis TrueImage to make backups of my Windows disks. TrueImage can build a "Rescue Disk" with which the entire Windows system can be restored.

Update:
  • Try the suggestion in this link.
  • WARNING: But first do the following:
    • Shutdown the system.
    • Flip power switch on PSU to OFF.
    • Physically disconnect and remove all macOS SSDs.
      • I don't care how inconvenient this might be.
      • You don't want to take any more risks at this stage.
    • Failure to do this can inadvertently cause you to lose macOS as well.
    • Now power up the system and follow instructions in above link.

Anyone managed to get Mojave running
Opencore later than 0.6.8? I can't get it to update and boot up with anything later. I am trying to put 0.7.0 or later on my system for VTD to be enabled. Thanks.

Hi PeterAF,

I managed to do exactly the same thing. Yes, it's a dumb move to make, but consider it a learning experience. I certainly did!

I did what Casey suggested - powering down the machine and removing the macOS disk - and then followed these instructions very, very carefully (making allowances for the differences between my machine and the author's).

I suggest printing the article out, so you can mark off each step as you complete it.

Cheers,
V

Hello @@CaseySJ,

thank you so much, I will try your suggestion later. I know from experience that without physical disconnecting all other drives Windows install will not work.

All the best
Peter

Hi @CamoViking,

welcome in the club and thank you very much for the link. I am curious to see if everything will work again and will report on it later.
