Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Is this happening at all sampling rates or only at high rates (192 KHz)? Please have a look here to see if this is the same problem that you're experiencing:
Hello @CaseySJ
It was exactly my problem:
44.1 & 48kHz seems to work
88.2 & 96kHz squealing and random distortions
Beyond that, only frying!

I kept the "CPU Base Clock" setting at 100.0 MHz (not auto) as @Ayvan advised me.
Uninstalled / Reinstalled the UAD program.

Sounds good to me, I can switch between different sample rates and up to 192.
Maybe I installed it in a hurry, I don't remember.

Thank you very much for your help which UAD refused to give me.
You were essential in the construction of my project

I've been thinking about building a new system for a while and started pricing up components today. I'm struggling to find the Z490 Vision D in stock anywhere (I live in Switzerland btw) so was wondering has it been discontinued? Or is this just another case of the general shortage of components etc?

Yes I believe Z490 series boards are largely discontinued. When existing inventory dries up, they will be gone, but should appear on the used market.

An alternative is the ASRock W480 Creator. There seems to be more inventory. Lacks overclocking but has 10G ethernet. ASRock W480 Build

Hello @CaseySJ,

I wanted to upgrade from OC 0.7.1 to 0.7.2. via HackinDROM. Unfortunately, I was inattentive and mounted the wrong hard disk (Windows system). After the new start the whole system did not boot and hung. I realized the mistake and "deleted" the new EFI 0.7.2 from the Windows disk. But now my windows boot disk does not show up any more. I must have overwritten the Windows boot section. Any chance to repair my dual boot system?

Thanks,
Peter

Amazon.com still has a large supply of the Z490 Vision G (new) boards. Look to be close to retail price.

Hello @PeterAF,

HackinDROM makes a backup of the EFI folder before installing the new version. The backup should be present in the EFI partition of the Windows SSD.

If you can still boot macOS, do so, then mount EFI partition of Windows SSD and post screenshot of the contents of that partition. Is there a ZIP file there?

@jonpm,

The Z490 Vision G is a good alternative. We support that board here and provide an OpenCore EFI folder for it. It can be used in conjunction with a Thunderbolt add-in-card should you require Thunderbolt.

Hello @CaseySJ,

I can still boot macOS because - after the hung - I started the system from a backup of the EFI 0.7.1 via the bios boot override and then deleted the EFI 0.7.2. from the Windows disk. Therefore, I cannot see any content in this part of the Windows disk via the finder. I have saved the EFI backup but it looks identically to the EFI on the macOS disk. So I guess I have destroyed the Windows boot section? A new start from macOS is not possible (see screen shot).

If you mount the Windows EFI partition in macOS and open it in Finder, what files do you see? Here's the EFI folder on my Windows disk:
