AWAC is not for your system

shouldn't need the EC rename either

framebuffer-patch-enable
framebuffer-stolenmem
framebuffer-fbmem
only required if you are unable to set DVMT to 64MB in bios

This setting is in the BIOS. I'm using 64MB but tried all the way up to 512MB

64MB will be fine or 128MB for higher resolutions than 1080p

I have a 2K monitor. I understand that 128MB is better? I will try to restart the installation with this value.

Hi

I am looking at getting one of these hp 800 elite desk minis either g3 or g4.

What would take the latest os and run it as much as possible without any issues

Did you need to change the wifi card and Bluetooth or anything?

Thinking of maybe getting a guide for the g3 and I see there is one for the g4/5

The G4/G5 Mini guide has gone through a lot more development and will save you a lot of time and effort to get a working install. You should be able to find a G4 at a decent price you could afford. Something as seemingly insignificant as a BIOS version can make a big difference in how well things go. If someone else has already tested and found the best one to use that is really valuable. If you have to do all that yourself it could take a lot of trial and error. The newer the chipset, the longer you should get macOS support without having to keep changing your SMBIOS to something newer and creating new serials to go with that.

With AWAC removed, for me the download ends with the apfs_module_start: 1689 error regardless of the BIOS video memory settings, but I tried all of them. Recommendations on the forum suggest including SSDT-EC-USBX in the installation, but I have it and it was originally. Also met an indication of incompatibility with hard drives. Could it be that the reason is that the system has two disks (nvme and simply SSD) and one of them has the system installed? In this case, on which disk is it better to try to install Mac OS?

I had attempted a Catalina install on the G3 Mini. I never got wake from sleep to work properly, so I gave up. A couple of things about the G3 Mini that I remember:
  • At the time, this patch was required (not required on G4 or G5 Mini)
  • RTC corruption is a problem, so you need to patch RTC. I initially thought RTCMemoryFixup kext was best, but have since changed my mind and believe the 'old' CLOVER-style RTC patch is best (mem length = 2)
  • It's best to extract the G3 Mini ACPI and tailor your ACPI patches accordingly. Guessing ACPI patches without knowing the original ACPI is just trial and error.
  • If you have a choice between G3, G4 and G5 Minis, stick with a G4 or G5 and follow this guide.
