[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hello @CaseySJ
After disabling NVMeFix.kext worked for about 30 hours and froze again. Maybe you still have suggestions what could be wrong?
Some follow-ups:
  • Was Big Sur stable with OpenCore 0.7.0?
  • If so, let’s go back to 0.7.0 and re-verify stability.

  • If 0.7.0 is stable, then we can systematically look for differences between 0.7.0 and 0.7.2.

Unfortunately, I don’t know, I immediately upgraded to OC 0.7.1 and then to 0.7.2. The problems were at 0.7.1 too.

Will check this soon. I may have mistakenly used the 0.7.1 OpenCore.efi. If that file has a July date then it’s 0.7.1.

Update: That was indeed the problem. A fixed version has been posted to both the mini-guide and HackinDROM App.

This was the problem with my other build, and I found this post via Google  Thanks, again, lol.

Hello @joostiphone, have you already tried disabling the two DMAR-related entries in ACPI section of config.plist as mentioned 5 posts above yours?
Thanks a bunch, this was what it needed, I didn't noticed that post. Works great now! :)

Some more questions:
  • If you expand the spoiler below (Configuration/Equipment List), can you confirm the following:
    • The same configuration was running on Catalina/Clover since 2020 with no issues?
  • You stated that Big Sur 11.1 was installed cleanly. Does this mean:
    • Big Sur was installed on a new disk?
      • If so, was Migration Assistant used to transfer applications and data from Catalina?
    • But your Catalina/Clover installation is still present?
      • If so, does the system work reliably if you boot that disk?
      • The same applications work reliably on Catalina?

Hi CaseySj,

A month ago, I finally switched to the "new" Coffee Lake system. The system is based on the following hardware:
MB: Gigabyte Designare
CPU: I9 9900K
GPU: MSI RX 560 Aero ITX
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX (2x32 GB)
M.2 Disk: Samsung 970 pro
SSD: Samsung 850 pro
Apple Broadcom BCM943602CDP

I first installed Mojave 10.14.6 (Clover 5111) but the system was very unstable and I had a very frequent spontaneous reboot of the system.
I followed your instructions literally during the installation.
I would like to mention that I inserted the GPU into PCIEX8.
Everything seemed to be working properly except for problems with frequent system crashes.

After that I formatted the disk and installed 10.15.6 (Clover 5111), and the result was exactly the same. The computer crashes very often. It seems that the system load level is not associated with appearance of a reboot.

After that I tried to do the installation via OpenCore bootloader, but I couldn't even start the installation because obviously I didn't do the correct installer because I couldn't even start the installation.

Could you help me please? I am willing to pay for your help. I have been struggling for a month and I am afraid I will have to switch to Windows or buy a Mac mini.

@CaseySJ Save me!

I can't boot my Z390 Designare anymore

I wanted to install Debian on my 970 nmve which I used for Big Sur in the past,
After successfully shutting down macOS and switching OFF PSU and Power conditionner,
I waited for a minute then removed my main SSD Samsung 860, to make a clean install of Debian in a completely separate way on the 970 nmve, so without OC and custom BIOS settings

But problem when I push power button -> nothing -> really nothing is happening
Then I remember that I'm using Elias modified beta BIOS (TB dxe), so I reset CMOS,
This is the second time since im using Elias latest mob BIOS that I have this problem, but resetting CMOS used to fix the issue
But not this time!
All cables are plugged correctly, I verified them twice
Now all I have is this picture:

Yellow light from "Designare" logo :silent:, that's all

Hello @Ali,

To install macOS using OpenCore we need to use BIOS F9i or BIOS F9g and set BIOS --> Boot --> CFG-Lock to Disabled. If you open the Quick Reference spoiler at the top of Post 1, you will find links to both BIOS F9i or F9g in Section 1 of that spoiler.

In addition to CFG-Lock, all other BIOS parameters also must be set properly, according to BIOS Configuration section of Post 1.

Please try that and let us know if the problem persists. OpenCore is preferred now.

I've been having issues with Thunderbolt with Mojave and Big Sur. I ended up reflashing the Z390 Designare with BIOS F9i and the F9i modded version. Thunderbolt would not connect to the UAD Apollo. I had to reset the CMOS a few times and remove/swap out all Thunderbolt cables and let them "drain" for several minutes. Something is different with OC 072 and/or the Thunderbolt patches. It's working now, but it's been a really bad week.
