Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Yeah, I assume it's all tied into the DRM issues we face, so all the usual stuff like SMBIOS choices and lack of T2 chips etc...

Instead of switching SMBIOS I did this and have Apple Music Lossless working.

Bash:
defaults write com.apple.AppleGVA gvaForceAMDKE -boolean yes

I will keep an eye out for unintended side effects.

Vision G (BIOS f20), Gigabyte RX 580,
Last EFI for Vison G from Hackindrom, SMBIOS iMacPro 1,1.

Problems with video output through DisplayPort. It shows only 1080p on my 2K monitor. Through HDMI resolution is correct.
Along this, GPU is fully supported (videoproc, FCPX, LUXmark are OK).
I tried enabling/disabling CSM support and even turning on iGPU - no luck, DP ports on dGPU still has blurry 1080p limit.

Sometimes it boots in to the system with black screen. At these times resolutin in OS is correct, i can see it through Anydesk, but screen is black.

Do i need agdmod=pikera for Polaris card?

Can it be because of removing "Initial Display Output" in BIOS f20?
Some questions:
  • What is the make/model of the monitor?
  • When did the DisplayPort problem first occur?
  • What changes were made around that time?
    • Was BIOS changed around that time?
    • Was OpenCore updated around that time?
  • Once macOS is fully booted, is the screen resolution correct (2K via DisplayPort)?
Boot argument agdpmod=pikera is not needed for RX 580.

Have you tried switching back to an older BIOS such as F6?

thank you so much

Some questions:
  • What is the make/model of the monitor?
ViewSonic 2758 2k and ViewSonic 2785 4k. The problem with unstable video output occurs both of them. (at the same time, z390 designare with Radeon VII use these displays perfectly).
  • When did the DisplayPort problem first occur?
From the first boot after macos install. I have fresh OS.
  • What changes were made around that time?
    • Was BIOS changed around that time?
    • Was OpenCore updated around that time?
I have fresh new installation, OC 0.7.2, EFI for Vision G is from Hackindrom.
  • Once macOS is fully booted, is the screen resolution correct (2K via DisplayPort)?
Nope, DP shows 1080p on 2k display. If i try to reconnect or switch displays, it can becames black (but OS is running normally, i can see it by Anydesk)

Ok, i will get rid of it.

For the Vision G F6 or F7 is better? Do they have CFG-Lock parameter, right?

In System Preferences --> Displays can you manually change the resolution to 2K?

Ok, i will get rid of it.

Gigabyte's USA website does not have BIOS F7, hence I recommended BIOS F6. I believe it has CFG-Lock in the Boot section. Also we must disable Serial Port.

Hello @jimbojingle,

Let's start from the beginning on this issue. Some basics first:
  • Which version of BIOS is installed on your Z490 Vision D?
  • Is the Thunderbolt firmware flashed?
  • What is the make/model of your GPU?
  • What is the make/model of your monitor?
  • Which video connector are you using? HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI?
  • What other PCIe cards are installed?
    • Fenvi WiFi/BT?
    • Anything else?
  • What devices are connected to the internal USB 2.0 headers?
    • Fenvi Bluetooth?
    • Anything else?
  • What Thunderbolt devices are connected to the system?
  • What are the makes/models of all NVMe SSDs in your system?
  • In BIOS, is CSM Support enabled or disabled?
  • In BIOS, is Thunderbolt Boot Support enabled? If so, what is it set to? Boot Once? Boot ACL?
  • Have you already tried re-flashing the BIOS?
  • Have you already tried CMOS Reset?
Hi CaseySJ,

Thanks for your continued enthusiasm to help. I really appreciate it.

It would be really great to resolve my 'Hanging at the Gigabyte Splash Screen' problem which has been present since build day one and plagues me on a daily basis. I have discussed the problem with Gigabyte to no avail and have had my Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro RAM DDR 4 (4 x 16GB) tested and verified by Corsair.

Here are the answers to your questions.
  • Which version of BIOS is installed on your Z490 Vision D? ----F6

  • Is the Thunderbolt firmware flashed? ----No

  • What is the make/model of your GPU? ----Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 5700 XT 8G GDDR6 Dual HDMI/Dual DP OC (Uefi) Special Edition

  • What is the make/model of your monitor? ----Dell U2713HM

  • Which video connector are you using? HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI? ----DisplayPort

  • What other PCIe cards are installed?
    • Fenvi WiFi/BT? ----Yes
    • Anything else? ----None, other than a PCI Extender Cable to mount my GPU vertically in system case
  • What devices are connected to the internal USB 2.0 headers?

  • Have you already tried CMOS Reset? ----Yes, several times
Thanks again for taking a look at this.

Thanks again for taking a look at this.

Have you tried it without the extender cable? I have had no end of trouble with cheap PCI extenders and they have all ended up in the bin.

Did you disable ResizeBar in Bios?

Check your cable, SATA cable, and Power cable to SSD disk.

In System Preferences --> Displays can you manually change the resolution to 2K?
No, top resolution is 1080p, if i use DP.

I flashed F6, disabled iGFX, chose PCIe 1 output. Disabled Serial port and CMS.
With DP i boot into Open Core, picker has low resolution and distort. After picker it boots in black screen. Anydesk shows OS working fine, with right display resolution (but output is black).
Same thing on every of three DP outputs on RX580.

HDMI output works as expected, OpenCore picker has right resolution also.
