Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Hi @CaseySJ sorry to bother, I'm having this weird issue with Thunderbolt on the Z490. Last week I format and did a fresh install of Big Sur and Windows with new drivers. All was OK but today I notice there's no Thunderbolt on Mac, and I can't find it even in BIOS. I don't know if I did something wrong. Last year I flash the Thunderbolt chip, and everything was OK with the vrs8 card. I stopped using it for a couple of months, and today I was trying to used again with no success. I updated the BIOS to f20 and resotred to f5 aftet no change. You got some clew on whats may going on? Any help will be appreciated, best regards.

Hello @Fabrizzioa04,

Thunderbolt settings are in Settings —> IO Ports in BIOS. BIOS F5 is the right version.

Are you sure there are no Thunderbolt settings in BIOS?

We need to enable GPIO3 Force Pwr in BIOS. This is shown in Post 1, under BIOS settings.

I can't find it in Io ports, I have the F5 version

Ouch, that's not good. Some suggestions:
  • Perform CMOS Reset and re-configure BIOS parameters afterwards. Always start with F7 (Load Optimized Defaults).
    • Do you see Thunderbolt settings now?
  • If not, shutdown the system and flip power switch on PSU to off for at least 10 seconds (i.e. cold shutdown).
    • Then power on the system and re-flash BIOS F5.
    • Then configure BIOS parameters.
    • Do you see Thunderbolt settings now?
Other thoughts:
  • When was the last time that Thunderbolt worked?
    • Last week?
  • Were any devices added to or removed from the motherboard?
    • Any NVMe SSDs added or removed?
    • Any SATA SSDs or HDDs added or removed?
    • Any PCIe cards added or removed?
  • Was the motherboard taken out of the case for any reason?
  • Can you see the Thunderbolt Flash ROM chip on the back side of the motherboard?
    • If so, does it look okay?
    • Any disconnected pins?
    • Any missing resistors near the chip?

Hi,
I have an issue with my monitor when I use the lock screen feature.
I lock it, lock screen appears, after a few seconds screen goes dark as expected.
When I move my mouse, lock screen appears but the entire screen is colored in purple as seen in the picture, then after a few seconds it goes dark and doesn't respond anymore.
I usually solve it by turning screen on/off until it returns to normal color but it's really annoying...
Is there a fix for this?
Thanks
  • Does this monitor support HDR (high dynamic range)?
  • If so, is HDR turned on in System Preferences --> Displays?
  • Are you using HDMI-to-HDMI or DisplayPort-to-DisplayPort connection?
  • Are there any adapters/converters involved, such as DP-to-HDMI or DP-to-DVI, etc.?

Just a little update to my Login screen background problem - updating from 11.4 to 11.5 solved it. No idea what was wrong, but the correct background is now displayed on initial macOS boot

Hello @joe6187,

This panic log does not identify any particular cause. Therefore we need to characterize the problem. This means determining the circumstances under which the problem occurs.

Does the problem occur randomly or can you reproduce the error by following certain steps?

Which version of macOS are you running?

How long was your system running properly before this error started?

If your system was running fine for weeks or months, but this problem started recently, then what changes were made to your system?

Hi Casey. Suddenly my RX580 does not show me the Gigabyte splash screen. It boots after a while into windows only and i dont see the OC boot screen at all. Once in windows it works fine. I tried it in another PC and same story. I have to put my Nvidia GT710 to be able to boot back into mac. Any suggestions that could fix this issues.

First thing to check is whether Initial Display Output in BIOS is set to PCIe 1 Slot.

The next thing would be to perform CMOS Reset, which subsequently requires BIOS to be reconfigured.
