Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Hello @dsingh,

Some questions:
  • Your Z490 Vision D has two Ethernet ports, but only one is defined in System Preferences --> Network. Are you sure the Ethernet cable is connected to the red Ethernet port on the rear IO panel?
  • Have you intentionally deleted the second Ethernet entry from System Preferences --> Network?
  • Is SIP enabled or disabled (csr-active-config)?
I tried all of the modifications you described, but on my Z490 Vision D with Monterey Public Beta 1, the i225-V port does not actually connect (no green dot in System Preferences --> Network). The correct driver loads, but the a connection is not established in Monterey.

I tried with and without AppleVTD.
Hey Casey,

I have intentionally disabled IntelMausi kext, since I only need one port. And I try to minimize number of kexts and patches for more stability. The Port is defined in DeviceProperties, so macOS will pick it up in System Information > PCI ports as "Ethernet Controller", with "Driver Installed: No".

I think there's some minor issue with Monterey where it is not assigning IP address despite loading correct driver. I suggest you try refreshing settings so it can rebuild the interfaces, similar to "fixing en0" section in fixing iServices. (Both Dortania and iDiot's guide suggest this). It may work. Or a fresh install may be worth it if it doesn't work.

sudo rm /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
sudo rm /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
And then reboot immediately.

Cheers.

EDIT: I had also enabled VT-D (with your method) after enabling and testing above method. It works with both, so at least VT-D doesn't seem to affect the Ethernet at all. And VT-D was enabled in Monterey as well so it works with that also.

Hi, can you help verify that this is the correct Z490-Vision D? I just need to be sure and I am quite new to all of this. Also It's a good price for Australia - and they are nearly sold out so...I guess time limit? This is the link:
GA-Z490 Vision D
It's just that it says GA at the start..? I have the Z390, but it seems to be having issues Booting - even into bios. I have replaced the battery and am now on bios f9i.
But If I need to replace the motherboard (has issues even with no disks / OS on) then I should grab this quickly.....unless it's not the correct one.

I can not afford a Mac any more, my circumstances are SO different - SO this is a Godsend to me.
Thank you ALWAYS.
Txx

Hi, yes that is indeed the right board. GA is simply a (bad) prefix for Gigabyte.

@CaseySJ,

Hi Buddy,

Just confirming that I also don't need to use FakePCI kexts for Ethernet on Big Sur 11.4.
I disabled all FakePCI and Ethernet related Kexts in config.plsit and added the dk.e1000=0 boot arg.

This is on Gigabyte Z490 Vision G booting macOS Big Sur 11.4 via OC 0.7.1
Also running with AppleVTD with no side effects found so far, system is just as stable as before.

Cheers

I can also confirm the same:
  • On Big Sur and Monterey it is not necessary to use FakePCIID or modify Device ID to enable i225-V Ethernet port. Using boot argument dk.e1000=0 is sufficient.
  • On Monterey, however, the i225-V port does not connect, but this may be specific to my Z490 Vision D. Things tried:
    • Deleting NetworkConfiguration.plist file
    • Enabling and disabling AppleVTD
    • Switching from DHCP to DHCP with Manual IP
  • All of these configurations work in Big Sur using same EFI and same Z490 Vision D system. I will just wait for next Monterey Public Beta.

is there a guide on how to upgrade? i tried replacing the efi folders with the latest oc release and then the files @CaseySJ posted on the latest release...then installed from catalina -> big sur. however, now i can't get it to boot into big sur. just getting a black screen.

should i start over and fresh install? or is there a way to save this install?

Are you booting from EGPU or IGPU? try switching your display to other ports and see if it helps. Also did you use the Intel EFI?

Some questions:
  • What are you trying to upgrade?
    • Older version of OpenCore to newer version of OpenCore?
    • Catalina to Big Sur?
    • Both OpenCore --> to --> new OpenCore and Catalina --> to --> Big Sur?
  • If you updated OpenCore first, was the new OpenCore EFI folder able to boot Catalina?
  • If Big Sur is not booting, have you tried pressing and releasing CMD-V at the OpenCore Boot Picker to enable verbose mode, then selecting the Big Sur boot disk?

So, I need to build a gaming PC for my son and since I have the Asus B560-F Gaming board I decided to buy a i7 10700K CPU which I would use in my Z490 Vision D board for Mac and give him the Rocket Lake CPU. I installed that today and can 100% confirm that the Rocket Lake and AMD RX580 together gives the stuttering sound issues I was experiencing. With the 10700K cpu I have no sound issues from HDMI out via the RX580.

This just if anyone else is thinking about this type of combo note that there might be issues with Rocket Lake and RX580.
