Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Hi both.

If it is of any use, the latest Big Sur 11.4 release does have support for the i225-V LAN chip BUT only the version 2 (IIRC) chipset, there is also a version "3" which is not yet fully compatible. I'm not 100% sure what the problem or difference is, but it is, sadly, real.

:)
Big Sur 11.5 beta 3 allows both Ethernet ports to connect. We simply set the i225-V’s device-ID to F3158680 to trigger the native driver. But in Monterey the port does not establish a connection. Hence I suspect something is amiss in Monterey.

The i225-V actually works well for me in 11.4 Big Sur but not in Monterey, but then again also to having the kext I also have the device properties setup. I had to change the hardware setup in network to manual and not leave it in automatic else I was getting reboots.

That may be true - and may be the limit of my knowledge! - but it is certain there are two versions of the i225-V in circulation, one of which was native to Big Sur 11.4 - finally. They both have the same device-ID. As for Monterey, that is a pool of sharks I haven't yet dipped my toes into! :D

Okay. Maybe the support for the i225-V version 2 was only a temporary measure by Apple. I'm sorry to say I haven't installed Monterey yet as my Internet connection is too slow for such a download just now. o_O

Just my little contribution with Monterey...
I used modified EFI as recommended by @CaseySJ
- i225-V not working (not a real problem so far)
- A lot of random KP without any clue (upgrade on duplicated Big Sur on another HD)
- more annoying is dual display not working with 2 DP monitors. I need to plug with one DP and one HDMI to get both screens working.
Hope it helps !

The random kernel panics may be due to fakepciid kexts. Please ensure to Disable for Monterey.

Guys, I've just applied Bider's fix, and apparently my I-225V is back in 11.4 and this time with no crashing!

This is what he suggested:

1. Disable FakePCIID.kext and FakePCDID_Intel_i225-V.kext in config.plist,
2. remove everything concerning i225 in DeviceProperties/Add/PciRoot...
3. add "dk.e1000=0" (without quotes) to boot-args.

Couple of questions:
  • Does this boot argument reduce the port’s speed to 1Gbps?
  • Does the port connect and work in Monterey?

1) It doesn’t seem like it

2) I haven’t tried Monterey with it yet but will do later
