Stork's Thunderball II Build: ASUS ProArt Z490 Creator (Thunderbolt 3) - i5-10400 - RX 580

I can confirm hot swap is working for me on 11.4 with a type c flash drive. Could you try using my usb map from post #179 and see if works? Remember to remove usbinjectall.kext and set Kernel>Quirks>XhciPortLimit to False
I can give it a shot, did you use type 8, 9, or 10? I'd like to ultimately adopt that change into my map / config, as you also mentioned it's mostly a get out of jail free card

Type 9 for the rear ports and 10 for the internal type c port (front panel).

The map is what I use for production so it’s fine to use if you have the same requirement as me. Not everyone has front panel type c ports so you’d prob want to remove that one for example.

Finally got Big Sur 11.4 up and running on my test drive. It took 3 days of fooling with the USB mapping, trying to use the updater, and, finally, creating an install USB to do a complete install with the full 11.4 install. Done!

Hey guys,
did anyone successfully flashed the TB firmware chip on this MOBO? I read several times on this thread that it is not recommended, but I did not get why. I did it many times before on a GA Z490 vision D board with very good results and I would like to recreate same nice build with this Creator MOBO, as the Vision D boards are hard to get now.
Can someone share the modded TB firmware for this board?

Another question, on the Vision D it is possible to use the iGPU with the right frame buffer / frame buffer edits to enable all the 3 video outputs on the mother board, has anyone tried the same on this board with success?

Thanks in advance for your replies! :)

This is something I’m super interested in trying but I’ve never done it before and just haven’t had time to try. I’ve had the flasher in my Amazon wish list for months now waiting for some time off work.

People advise against it because it (probably) won’t be able to output video at BIOS if you’re using a Thunderbolt Display, I’m also not sure how it would work on Windows - maybe boot carp drivers would work? Luckily The hot swap SSDT makes all my devices work perfectly so haven’t *needed* to do it yet.

What can I do to help? I assume you don’t own this board yet or you would have been able to download the firmware already. Realistically it’s gonna be a few weeks/months until I have time to try downloading the firmware so someone else might be better equipped.

Good luck and keep us updated with your progress!

Regarding the GPU question I can’t be of much help as I’m using a dGPU for all my video needs but it would be great to have it as an option for some people.

Special thank you to @ohchang and @CaseySJ for getting Ethernet to work with Catalina and Big Sur. Since I'm using my WiFi, I didn't notice this change was needed until I saw the below post.

I'm on Big Sur 11.5.2. So...

Using OpenCore Configurator, change the device ID's to F3158680:

Now remove the FakePCIID and FakePCIID_Intel_I225-V kexts by unchecking (unabling) them in the Kernel section:

Finally, make sure the i225-v kernel patch is disabled. It should look like this:

For Thunderbolt users, @CaseySJ recommends the following changes in addition to the above:
  • BIOS Setup --> Enable Vt-d
  • config.plist --> NVRAM >Boot Arguments --> Remove "dart=0" (not 'debug=0x100')
  • config.plist --> Booter --> Keep DevirtualiseMmio checked ON
  • config.plist --> ACPI --> Disable the Thunderbolt SSDT

Save.

Now reboot. Upon rebooting, at the OC boot picker, hit keyboard Spacebar and choose Reset NVRAM.

Enjoy your Ethernet.

Now, next time you update your OC, be sure to remove the two kexts from your config.plist. :thumbup:

Hi. I am trying to build a new system with this board. I am unable to see my install USB for Catalina. I am able to see the drive on my old GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 board though. I’m not sure if there is a setting I am missing.

So I was able to fix the USB being recognized. I still had the scheme as MBR instead of GUID Partition (silly me); however, I am now getting an end randomseed error “++++++++++++++++++” when trying to install using a Unibeast install drive. I’ve tried adding the SSDT and Kexts from the original post in my EFI folder on my drive. (Not sure if that was the best move). Are there any other required kexts or boot args I should use while installing on this board? Right now I have the Unibeast defaults (dart=0 Nv_disable=1) and have added -x -v.

Disclaimer: It has been a while since I have really worked on an install, like 2011. I have started looking at OpenCore as suggested in the original post, but dont have another personal computer at this time to experiment fully. Was hoping to maybe get this started with Clover then make a switch in bootloader later.
