I think Facebook and Google are far, far more evil.

I feel like Apple is the only one of these huge companies that is looking out for the users.
yes they cared about privacy so much that apple own tech repair employees post personal videos of the costumers who took their phone in for repair

instead of just repairing the phone, they started looking at the personal files and posted some videos, i’m not going to say or write what was the video about but is only 3 letters, i’m sure you already know, is all over the news

i used to love apple but only when steve was alive then timmy boy came in and ruined everything, apple is the only one that look out for their costumers, yeah right,
they want to overcharge the costumer to repair their own faulty designs

that sound more like looking out for themselves

by the way i’m back
just installed 11.4 on a secondary system using open core and yes i had to use a GPU from the company you love
AMD
but like a said is a 2ndary system, so i honestly don’t care, my main system has the one you hate
Nvidia
that one you consider an evil company but apple is full of angels, right?

you never change
but that’s good

neither do i , here is the proof

can’t wait for tim to go away

That guy you are talking about was a contracted worker from Pegatron. Do your homework before you post stupid crap.

Dude, seriously what are you talking about? What has apple got to do with the employee of an Apple Authorized Service Provider? Do you have any idea what you are talking about?

Apple repairs have never been cheap even in Steve's day and Apple cant always be blamed for overzealous Apple Store workers/managers that think store performance goes against customer service.

Apple products are still well priced compared to other companies depending on your value proposition. I don't see any other ecosystem doing what Apple is doing. If Apple is that bad, well get a windows pc. Good luck to you.

2 years? The transition would take 2 years from 2020. Across the entirety of 2020, Apple shipped an estimated 22.5 million macs worldwide, So you think Apple will drop the support of these machines in 2023?

Well if they did that trust me they would be shooting themselves in the foot with a MOAB. Not saying they wouldn't but that would be a PR disaster.

Apple will be selling intel based macs up until at least the end of 2022. It would be really strange if those macs wouldn't get any updates after 2023.

I think Intel Macs will be supported for a long time.

Someone who bought a premium intel Mac in 2020 is not going to lose OS support at the end of 2024. Has apple ever done anything like that before?
From what we saw on Monday the 7th it looks like the strategy will be different this time. They will possibly keep supporting 2019/2020 Macs and the Mac Pro refresh for a 4-6 year span. They will just be dropping older Macs much sooner. Other than the old TC Mac Pro from 2013 and the 2014 mini, both of which sold in small numbers, Apple killed off many more machines than they normally do. This will keep happening over the next five years. They will force owners of older Macs to upgrade to ASi Macs. Those that bought the newer ones won't be offended because they'll get a good number of macOS updates.

The idea is to get people to upgrade their older hardware, not to disappoint those that just bought a new Intel 5K iMac in 2020 by ending it's useful life much too early.

Here you can see they dropped support for many more Mac laptops than they normally do. That's because there's already an M1 MBP and MBA they can buy today. M1X MBPs will arrive this Fall. The new iMacs just came out weeks ago so they killed off the 2014 iMac 5K for no good reason other than to make those people consider the new M1 iMac. These new 4.5K iMacs probably cost a lot less than what people paid for their 27" 5K iMacs back in 2014. The average selling price was around $2,500 depending on the CPU and amount of ram you bought.

Macs that can install and run Monterey

My guess has always been macOS support for approx 3-5 years after the last Intel Mac has been officially discontinued.

Possibly, but I think the difference now is that Apple is a 2 trillion dollar plus company that can afford to extend Intel support longer. That's why 4-6 years is more likely for this transition.

Back in 2006 the iPod was their biggest selling device and they were not as flush with cash. They didn't yet have the iPhone cash cow, iPads and the Apple watch, all which have very large profit margins. They dropped PPC support rather quickly in the mid 2000s and moved on to Intel as fast as they could. Back then Macs were their main source of revenue. No app stores or other sources of revenue to fall back on. When you look at iOS 15, it still supports the iPhone 6S which is a crazy long time to support any smart phone. The 6S with 6+ years of support.

SAN FRANCISCO — September 9, 2015 — Apple® today announced iPhone® 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, the most advanced iPhones ever, adding a powerful new dimension to iPhone’s revolutionary Multi-Touch™ interface.

I’m guessing Universal Control will require the T2 chip so that’s a bummer… (for SMBIOS that have it)
It may also work using the same methods of transfer as Continuity and Handoff on Macs. That's probably why some of the newer Intel Macs will work with this feature.

  • Apple has already transitioned iMacs, MacBook Airs, and MacBook Pros to Apple Silicon.
  • Only the Mac Pro hasn't moved to Apple Silicon yet. (Also, 16" MacBook Pro from 2019 and 27"+ iMac from 2020, if you count those separately.)
  • Assuming that Apple will no longer introduce any new Intel Macs anymore, the last new models that were released will be the MacBookPro16,x and iMac20,x, both from 2020.
  • I think it's a pretty safe assumption that some time between now and the end of the year, Apple will replace the 16" MacBook Pros and 27" iMacs with Apple Silicon models.
  • My guess is that the MacPro7,1 from 2019 will be replaced early 2022 and that will be the last Intel Mac to be discontinued.
  • If the above guesstimations are correct, 3-5 years of additional support will mean that all the 2020 models and 2019 Mac Pro will gets support up to 2025-2027. That means 2019 Mac Pro and 2020 models will have received official support 6-8 years after their introduction. I think that's fair and in line with how long they've historically supported most models.
Supporting them any further than that will not make sense regardless of how much money the company makes. It would be fiduciarily irresponsible of management towards shareholders.

Edit:
When I say 3-5 years of support, I mean 3 years of new macOS releases + 2 years of security updates.
