Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming build with working NVRAM

Hey @pastrychef! First things first, loving my Hackintosh after you helped me get it running nearly a year ago on this forum. Have had zero issues until recently when the lovely software utility started pinging me to update to Big Sur. Up until now I've simply ignored it, however I've become curious and interested enough to give it a shot.

I tried to do a quick search of this thread for where to pick up the conversation, but it didn't limit the search to just this thread...do you recall which page I should jump to so that I can start reading through on my own? If not I'll keep poking around and see if I can't find when the conversation jumped to upgrading Catalina > Big Sur.

Thanks for your work and subsequent help!

Updating to the latest version of macOS is simple...

  1. Download the latest EFI (choose either Clover or OpenCore) from post #1.
  2. Copy/paste your Serial, Board Serial, UUID, and MAC address (if you are using OpenCore) from your old config.plist to the config.plist included in the new EFI.
  3. Put the new EFI folder on the EFI partition of a USB flash drive.
  4. Reboot from the new EFI on the USB flash drive.
  5. If all is working fine, you can go ahead and replace the EFI on your main system drive and update to the latest macOS.

Baller. I was hoping to avoid you having to write this for (what must be) the umpteenth time; I appreciate it all the same!

Hi @pastrychef, I’m in Catalina trying to update to the last security update. On the last OpenCore version. But when I try to update it stuck in this screen:

If I try to boot on Catalina partition (and not the update installer partion) I can boot normally.
Can you help me with this? Thanks!

This has never happened to me... How are you trying to update? From System Preferences > Software Update?

Have you tried updating with Combo Update or with the full Catalina installer?

Yes, I’m updating: System Preferences > Software Update.
This is the secuence:

hey pastry chef hello,

My hack was working flawlessly, but two days ago my system started not to see the SSD drive to boot...

It stucks on the BIOS screen. It sees the other drive in it. It’s a normal SATA drive, but sadly no NVMe SSD to boot... what do I have to do ? It happened before when I installed the High Sierra two years ago...

Neither Clover nor OpenCore could make your SSD disappear. If BIOS can't see it, it's probably a hardware issue. Check the SATA cable or the power cable.

Hi @pastrychef, I been trying to install the last Catalina update-003 (19H1217). With OpenCore won’t boot. I try with Clover an no problem. Just to let you know how it went. Thanks.

Sorry to keep bothering: but TV app plays sound with IGPU. This is normal? DRM says fully supported.

I don't know. I haven't tested with IGPU only. I've only tested with dGPU + iMacPro1,1 system definition and Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Videos work.
