Will my Nvidia Graphics Card work with macOS ? List of Desktop Cards with Native Support

That proposed setup may not even work correctly in Windows 10, as it will see the GTX 690 as an SLI setup. Adding a third GPU (GTX 650 Ti), which is not identical to the other two GPU's is likely to cause you more headaches than it is worth. Especially if you plan to drive a display from the 'third' GPU.

Having looked at the specs for the EVGA GTX 650 TI cards, it appears these cards (there are five different EVGA 650 Ti cards) appear to all have 2 x DVI and 1 x mini-HDMI outputs. Do you have two identical models, are they the 1GB or 2GB models?

Having looked at the specs for the GTX 650 Ti cards - https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/evga-gtx-650-ti-2-gb.b1430; I would say the GTX 690 would be a definite improvement over two GTX 650 Ti cards. Even with just one of the two 680 GPU's working.

The cards I have are 2GB models, 1x HDMI, 1x DisplayPort, 1x DVI-D, 1x DVI-I. Each card runs one monitor over HDMI.

As for Windows being confused on GPUs? No idea how it's going to go, but my Windows install seems to ignore the problems that other users have and make its own, e.g. the BSoD print bug didn't affect me, and I was able to run a 9400 GT and a GTX 750 2GB in my computer with no issues (while the display outputs on the 9400 GT don't work, I was able to see it in NVidia Control Panel and mess around with what it did).
I think you can disable SLI on the 690, effectively making it 2 680's, but don't quote me on that.

It's fun to tinker, though, so I guess we'll see!
 
You are safe to update 11.3.1, if everything is working correctly in the current version of Big Sur you are using. The latest Big Sur update fixes some Webkit issues, no driver changes compared to Big Sur 11.3.

I used a couple of GTX 660's a few years ago. They worked just fine for a time. The graphical issues didn't happen till after I had been using the cards for some months . I was thinking the they were like yours, and not affected by the memory leak. Only time will tell if your GTX 650 TI cards are immune to the issue.
 
Hello everyone

I recently came across this thread when searching for an AMD card that is equivalent to my nVidia Quadro M4000 which I use in a Mac Pro 3,1 on High Sierra to power two screens over DisplayPort.

I'd like to upgrade the computer to at least Mojave but preferably Catalina but I'm not sure which AMD card is similar to the M4000?

I'm not gaming but use the card for image editing and its 10-bit capabilities. I am looking for a cool-running card that does not need an extra power cable.

A related question in case I decide to not upgrade – are web drivers really necessary under High Sierra for the M4000? Greg Gant writes that they are not (under "NVidia Professional GPUs") but over at MacRumors it is said that they are needed (and I've always used them with the Quadro).

I'm certain that all these Radeon cards shown in the graphic need the extra 6 pin power cable to function. If you want a workstation card that doesn't need extra power take a look at the Radeon WX4100 low profile card. This card is much less powerful but runs cool and quiet. About the same power as an RX 460 by AMD.

I would look at the AMD Pro WX5100 card, it is probably a little closer to the Quadro M4000 than the WX4100. It is good for 10-bit colour, is a single slot card and doesn’t require an external power connector. Not any good for gaming but a decent Pro card for graphics work.

These are an excellent choice for Mojave, Catalina and Big Sur the problem is the price inflation lately. It's not a good mininig card but the prices have gotten close to $1,000. With taxes it should be over a grand in the US. In the used market they sell for around $500.

The Radeon HD 7970 can be found for under $300 used on Ebay if @philipus has budget limits the prevent spending from $500 to $1,000 plus for a new graphics card. One other similar performing option is the GTX 780.

Thank you very much @Edhawk and @trs96 both for the super helpful suggestions and for replying so quickly. I wasn't aware of these Pro cards. Both the 4100 and the 5100 seem perfect. I'm in Europe and see them on various sites here for 300-500 Euros. And I can perhaps offset that by selling the Quadro.

I've only ever used the dosdude1 patchers with the Quadro card, which needs the nVidia web drivers (or so I've been told). Are web drivers needed for the AMD cards on Catalina too?
