Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

The on-board WiFi/BT module on Z490 Vision D (and Z390 Designare) is an Intel CNVi module instead of a generic M.2 module. The slot may resemble M.2, but it only accepts CNVi RF modules that interface with the digital side of the WiFi/BT circuit that is on the PCH (i.e. on the Z490 chipset). This is a locked slot that is not open to other devices.
Today, I am going to jump from H270N-Wifi to GA-Z490 Vision-D, I have BCM94360NG card on it. Can't I use it with new motherboard?

Hey Guys,

Has anyone with Z490 Vision G managed to get sleep working with Big Sur 11.3.1 ?

This is a new build using an EFI generated with the latest version of HackinDROM (no changes except added country code boot arg) .... Everything is working very well except Sleep, the monitor turns off but fans keep running.
Wake for Network is disabled in Prefs, BIOS settings as per post 1 with Vision G amendments.

I read that both @CaseySJ and @Justcurious1 reported sleep not working with the Vision G and 11.3.1 a few pages back and was wondering if any further progress has been made.

Cheers
Jay

PS: I've been super impressed with HackinDROM, I initially created my own EFI for this build using iMac SMBIOS based on Dortania's guide which worked fine but needed more optimisation ... however I have been curious about HackinDROM for a while, so now that i have a supported motherboard I decided to give it a try. The EFI it generated for Vision G uses the iMacPro SMBIOS and works extremely well, benchmarking better than my iMac based config.

Big  to @CaseySJ for his HackinDROM guides and the whole HackinDROM team for their hard work.

HackinDROM almost makes it easier to install MacOS on (supported) non-Apple hardware than it is to install it on genuine Apple Hardware, so for many users this is going to be a game changer. That said as a long time hackintosher i have to say that the process felt a little hollow as i personally enjoy the challenge of getting a new system running and the learning process it involves, but for anyone who just wants to get a system up and running in the shortest time possible then HackinDROM can be highly recommended.

Unfortunately the BCM94360NG won't work because that little M.2 slot with the Intel WiFi/BT module is an Intel proprietary CNVi slot.

Hello @jaymonkey,

That was fast! Sleep might be affected by the Fenvi FV-T919's Bluetooth connection. Would be good to do the following temporarily:
  1. Disconnect the Bluetooth header or
  2. Remove the Fenvi
Other sleep deprivation components include:
  • Corsair smart power supplies (with USB connection)
  • Corsair Commander Pro
  • Some liquid all-in-one coolers with USB connection

Glad to hear it! @Inqnuam of course deserves the credit for both the HackinDROM website and the app.

Exactly! No pain, no gain. By making the process so simple, we are actually robbing our users of that all-important feeling of accomplishment. On the other hand, we are also reducing the frustration factor! :)

@CaseySJ,

I haven't moved the WiFi/BT PCIe card from the old system to the new system yet so it's not that and I don't have any of the other types of sleep deprivation components you mention either ....

Was really just looking to get confirmation if Z490 Vision G sleeps ok with OC 0.69 + OSX 11.3.1 ? as both yourself and @Justcurious1 reported sleep not working with this combo a few pages back in this thread.

Other than the sleep issue the system is running well ... slowly migrating software from my old Haswell system to this new one

Cheers
Jay

That is odd...sleep should work.

Vision G owners:
  • If you're running Big Sur 11.3 or newer, is sleep working?

Working so far on 11.2.3, 11.3 betas, 11.4 betas & 11.4.
iMac 20,2, no wifi/bt installed, bios F20D & F20.

Hello @alexjibcam,

Good question about NVMe SSDs. Please have a look at this article posted by vit9696. My general recommendation is to completely avoid all Samsung NVMe SSDs. They are unnecessarily expensive and suffer from various issues. Not worth it.

Both the Syba and Fenvi are okay to use.

Also note that the AMD 6800 XT in your PC Parts List is only compatible with macOS 11.4 and newer. MacOS 11.4 is still in beta, although the release version might be out as early as next week.
What is the reservation with WD drives? I ask because I have a WD SN750 and 'it's fine' ?

Vision G, 11.3.1, BIOS F20D, sleep working perfectly. (Apple airport card from MacBook Pro in a PCIe adapter card)
