Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Well this is kind of odd: before looking at Activity Monitor, I removed agdpmod=pikera as I read this was a Navi-only boot flag. Then I took a look at Activity Monitor and saw mediaanalysisd spiking so I disabled iCloud Photos as well, then did a reboot. Bad idea changing two things at one time, but one of them worked as it seems my system will properly sleep now.
Both changes are helpful and relevant, so they should be retained. The crash was most likely caused by mediaanalysisd.

Hi! Thanks again for the excellent guide!

I have a question, I just add a Fenvi T-919 and connected the Bluetooth cable to the internal front usb 2.0 connector (HS02) on my Vision G. Both wifi and Bluetooth are working, as well as handoff, continuity, etc.

Question is should change my USB mapping configuration to set HS02 as internal or leave it as it is? If I should mark it as internal, can I still use the front USB 2.0 connectors?

HS02 on the Z490 Vision G is a USB 2.0 hub that controls both of the on-board USB 2 headers. All USB devices connected to those headers will appear on the HS02 hub.
  • HS02 is set to Internal already (type 255).
  • Does your system sleep and wake properly with the Fenvi FV-T919 installed?
  • Does your computer case contain front panel USB 2.0 (black) ports? Or does it contain USB 3.0 (blue) ports? Or does it contain both?
    • How many USB 2.0 (black) and how many USB 3.0 (blue) ports are on the front of the case?
  • Have you already connected one of the internal USB headers to the front panel?
  • If so, when you connect a USB device to one of the front panel USB 2.0 ports, does the system sleep and wake properly?

That's probably why it seems to be working so well :)

No major issues noticed so far. I noticed that sometimes, when unattended, entering DarkWake from Sleep, it spends an unusual amount of time in DarkWake before going back to sleep. Sometime 1hour+.

My computer has 2 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 at the front panel.

Yes, the front USB 2.0 port connector in connected to one of the motherboard internal HS02 ports. The Fenvi T-919 is connected to the other HS02 port next to it.

Haven't tested it yet. Excuse my ignorance, but is this a valid configuration? I mean HS02 as internal used simultaneously for bluetooth + other hot-plugged USB 2.0 devices?

This is not an ideal configuration, but it may still be quite workable. Because both internal USB 2 headers are governed by a single HS02 hub, we simply don't have the ability to configure each constituent port. Best thing is to connect a couple of USB devices to the external ports and test sleep/wake behavior.

Hmm. from your crash log, I wonder if SMCSuperIO.kext might be where the problem lies? Perhaps as an experiment try disabling that kext?

I’ve never had any Thunderbolt problems with the Z490 Vision D. I’ve just had to tweak some of the Thunderbolt BIOS settings, like disabling security, ensuring gpio3 force pwr is enabled, stuff like that. But never any crashes.
Thank you, dehjomz and CaseySJ for your help. I ended up recreating my install disk using an external SSD and went through reinstalling. All is working great now. Using iMac12,2, everything seems to be working including Thunderbot port with my TB monitor. I am still not sure why my first install would crash with TB dock or display connected, though.

One more thing is that my 6800XT metal score went from 198000 in beta 1 to 140000 in beta 3. Still much better than my previous Radeon VII. Could this simply be a driver issue?

I made some tests and I haven't noticed any issues. I'll leave it as it is. Thanks :)

I have another question regarding the back panel's SS06 USB-C type port. I have connected an iPhone and it seems like it is not recognised. Should it work or should use different port? (don't have USB-C to USB-A adapter at the moment..)

iPhone uses USB 2, which has been disabled from the USB C port in order to maintain a 15 port limit. It would be best to use a Lightning to USB A cable and to connect that cable to one of the USB 2 ports (or a USB 3 port where USB 2 has not been disabled). See Release Notes of the 0.6.9 OC EFI for list of disabled ports.

So good to be back on the mackintosh with a working 6800XT. The only issue so far is that sleep is not working. It wakes up immediately after going to sleep. Any thoughts on how to get the sleep working? Thanks.

If sleep was working before installing the 6800XT -- and nothing else has changed except for the 6800XT -- then there might not be anything we can do. Some suggestions:
  • Remove any devices from the 6800XT's USB-C port to see if that makes a difference.
  • Physically remove the 6800XT and revert back to previous setup to double check that sleep/wake works. This will conclusively identify the 6800XT as the culprit.
  • There is also a general sleep aid here. However, the key is to isolate variables systematically until the offending device is identified.
