[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

...
Only the 580 in slot one shows up in system report. I can't figure out how to get the second 580 to be recognized in macOS 10.5.3
...
Seems I misunderstood the problem. Both AMD GPUs should automatically appear in System Information --> PCI. Also check if they both appear in IORegistryExplorer (look for AMD9500Controller).

Hi @CaseySJ i'm back! I have looked everywhere about my very ultra slow hard drives and can't find the issue... I've tried enabeling TRIM (from terminal and OCC), tried checking if it was a hardware issue, reformat, and even change SATA ports on the board, and my drives are still going very slow with the build... I don't know where else to look or what to do, so if you would please help me out? Thank you so much!!

@DanTechMedia

Do you need Reminders on this system as opposed to just using your phone or whaever for notifications? I had to re-disable all Notification Center items, all Reminders, and all Widgets because the latest Mojave update reset all of those annoyances.
Hi @jiffyslot

Truthfully no, I don't really care about Reminders, I use my phone for all of that. I do want some notifications however but not from Reminders.

When you say you had to disable all Notification Center items, what are you referring to exactly & how did you go about that?

For me it's just the Reminders that wake the system up. Everything else seems to not effect it.

Thanks!

Please remind us:
  • What is the make/model of the SATA hard drive? Is it spinning hard drive or solid state (SSD)?
  • How many of them are there?
  • Are they connected together in RAID or operating individually?
  • When you run Disk Speed Test, what Read/Write speeds do you get on each one?
  • Are they formatted as APFS or HFS+ or something else?
  • How much free space is left on each disk?
  • Have you used Activity Monitor to monitor both Bytes Written and Bytes Read? This will tell us if there's any process that is either (a) writing way too much or (b) reading way too much.

Hi! Sure:
  • What is the make/model of the SATA hard drive? Is it spinning hard drive or solid state (SSD)?
    SAMSUNG SSD 870 QVO 1TB
  • How many of them are there?
I have only 1 of them for SYSTEm but also have a PEGASUS R6 RAID that also runs slowly than expected.
  • Are they connected together in RAID or operating individually?
The system drive is alone, the RAID runs via Thunderbolt 3
  • When you run Disk Speed Test, what Read/Write speeds do you get on each one?
Pictures attached. SSD maximum of 70Mbs Write, RAID 800Mbs
  • Are they formatted as APFS or HFS+ or something else?
The system drive is APFS, RAID is HFS
  • How much free space is left on each disk?
The SSD system drive has 800GB free and the RAID has 2TB free.
  • Have you used Activity Monitor to monitor both Bytes Written and Bytes Read?
Not really, I will monitor this.
Thank you so much!

  • Screenshot #1 shows 894 MB/s Write and 675 MB/s Read.
    • Pegasus RAID array
    • Format: HFS+
    • 2TB free
    • Speeds here are okay
  • Screenshot #2 shows 72 MB/s Write and 428.5 MB/s Read.
    • 1TB Samsung 870 QVO
    • Format: APFS
    • 800GB free
    • Write speed is unusually slow
Let us know what you discover by monitoring Bytes Written in Activity Monitor. Want to see if a process or set of processes might be writing a lot of data to the Samsung QVO.

You can set that up via System Preferences. I run a very spartan setup for my Pro Tools/VSL machine. Also, I don't use Bluetooth or WiFi.

If you're on 10.15.3 then it's necessary to update BIOS to F9g or higher and set BIOS Setup --> BOOT --> CFG-Lock to Disabled.

Always start by making a full bootable backup! That will be your safety net if anything goes wrong.

If you are on Clover, it will be necessary to switch to OpenCore. Please see the sequence of steps in the screenshot:

Hello Sir, I need some help, I believe I'm doing everything ok, but I can't pass step 3 (openCore 0.6.7 EFI for Z390 Designare). After pressing F12, I can see the OpenCore picker, but after I have chosen the internal HD, it shows the Circle with the cross line.
On this step:
  • At the OpenCore 0.6.7 Picker menu, select and boot the internal macOS disk.
  • If everything works correctly, copy the new OpenCore EFI folder from the USB flash disk to the EFI partition of the main macOS SSD.
I want to upgrade from Catalina to Big Sur. My current version is Catalina 10.15.3
Any idea why?
Thanks, CaseySj, for all your help.

Just tried to boot into Windows 10 from the "Picker" in OpenCore 069 and I can't seem to select anything.
My rig boots into Big Sur just fine after the timer runs out, but I'm not able to select anything.
I'm assuming it's something to do with the new Picker quirks.
My config.plist is a manually tweaked copy of CaseySJ's so I suppose I could have hosed it myself somehow..
Anyone know what's the trick?

Thanks in Advance.

Please double check that BIOS —> BOOT —> CFG-Lock is Disabled.
