HackinDROM App for OpenCore EFI Creation and Update

@CaseySJ,

Great write up/guide of this handy new utility ...

Cheers
Jay

Good to hear from you again! :)

You too buddy, I've been keeping an eye on the development of HackinDROM over the last few months, it's moved fast and looks like it's close for prime time.

Great to see you keeping up the tradition of TMx86 having the best written guides (IMO).

I'm planning on building a new Z490 / i9 10850K before the parts become scarce and was thinking of using one of the HackinDROM supported motherboards so i can have a play with HackinDROM.

I was thinking of using a Gigabyte Z490 Vision D or G .. I think you have tried both in the past so was wondering which you consider is the best ( D or G) ?

If HackingDROM works as well as advertised it has the potential to revolutionise Hackingtoshing and make getting a supported system up and running without out too much prior knowledge which will be great for beginners. It's just a shame that the years of new Intel releases of MacOS are now numbered.

Cheers
Jay

This may seem biased, but I prefer the Vision D. We've seen significant USB-related issues on the cheaper Vision G with macOS 11.4 that require us to remove six USB 2.0 ports and strictly maintain the 15-port limit. On the Vision D, however, we only need to remove two USB 2.0 ports while still exceeding the 15-port limit.

To quote the title of the final Star Trek: TNG episode, All Good Things... ;)

Thats useful information buddy, this will be my last Hack that i'll build for myself so was planning to go all out in an effort to have something that will last as long as possible ... Apple dependant of course.

Indeed ....

Sorry i'm taking this thread of topic ...

It's proving difficult to find a Vision D in stock in UK, i did find one on a site called OnBuy for £358.90 but they want £44.00 for delivery which seems insane .... and i've never used that company before. How does this price compare to what you paid ?

Other than the above I can't find anywhere else in the UK and Brexit has killed any chance of buying from Europe.

Might have to go for the Vision G after all ...

Okay, very cool, but what if we don't have one of the few listed motherboards? Will it still work?
It may work, or not..
You can try following next steps:
  1. Make a backup of your current EFI
  2. Select the motherboard which is the closest to yours
  3. Mount your EFI partitions through HackinDROM App
  4. Click to "Update to X.Y.Z" or "Reinstall OC" if your EFI is already up to date
  5. Carefully Switch OFF"Update" (blue buttons) for all amls kexts and drives that your system don't need

  6. Click to "Update OpenCore"
  7. Then try to boot your system with that newly updated EFI and let me know if it worked!

Please keep in mind HackinDROM App isn't made to work like this, this is just for test, chances are very big that it will work but it may fail too
