I've tried multiple times to update from 11.3 to 11.3.1 with Clover r5134, but during the Preparing phase, I get a “Download failed” error, regardless of whether I use ethernet or wifi for the download.

I’ve tried deleting com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist under ~/Library/Preferences and Library/Preferences and rebooting, but that didn’t help.

For what it’s worth, I also had issues with the Big Sur installer when updating from 10.15.7 to 11.3. In that case, it would download, but after starting the installation, I kept getting errors like “An error occurred loading the update.” I ended up having to download the installer to my MacBook Pro, copy it to my hack, and then run it with just ethernet connected. I've never had issues like this before Big Sur, and I’d prefer not to have to download the full installer to my MacBook Pro again for a small update like this.

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting the download to work?

I tried downloading the update from the app store with ethernet, but shortly after starting the installation, I got an error saying that the installer was damaged.

Silly question probably, but are you downloading the new version from a machine running Big Sur already?

I'm downloading on my hackintosh, which has 11.3 installed.

Okay. It does seem strange. If you are downloading to the drive you are going to install it on, it should be fine.

I get an error that my Big Sur drive is "incompatible" when I download anything from my Mojave PC. I was thinking this might be the problem - but clearly not in your case.

Perhaps you will need to re-download using your MacBook as ytou did before?

Yeah, I think I'll try downloading on my MacBook again, but I hope I don't have to keep doing that for every update.

I tried downloading on my MacBook and copying it over to my hack again, but that didn't work this time.

I also tried downloading and installing it in safe mode (a recommendation I read online for real Macs getting these errors), but that didn't work either.

I might just wait for the next update, and if I still get these errors, maybe I'll try a clean install.

Sorry to read that. I have no idea what could be happening.

Big Sur 11.3+ seems to be causing all sorts of problems.

You might also try deleting the contents of /Library/Updates/.
