The 4K Dell OptiMac - 9020 MT - Core i7-4790 - Radeon RX 570 - LG 4K IPS Monitor

Can you get a GT710 running with 15.1 or other smbios or does it have to be 14.2 etc - I've not been able to get it to work with any other smbios other than 14,2
It depends on which GT 710 card you are using. What are the specs and the brand name ? DDR3 or DDR5 ?

relating to above issue - any point to updating green lilu and any other kexts to later ones? I've just installed CAT on a 9020sff and noted newer ones needed for that as per your mini updated guide post... are they backwards compatible and better to use latest etc...?
Yes, you can update those kexts. Should cause no problems. They are always backwards compatible.

Can you run GT710 and onboard at same time? If so how and which smbios....
Yes, the SMBIOS doesn't matter. As long as you use one that supports iGPU like the iMac 14,2 or 15,1.

MSI DDR3 worked perfect under 14,2 and Sierra. I haven’t tried on Mojave or Catalina yet…

Under Sierra, whenever I changed SMBIOS to 15,1, the GT 710 no longer worked. I had to USB boot and change back to 14,2. I even tried ticking Nvidia Inject but nope What’s the secret!?

It varies between brands of cards. I have a Zotac GT 710 card that works with 15,1 and Mojave or Catalina but will not work at all with Big Sur, just a black screen on Big Sur. So the 710s are never a sure thing for support. The GK107 based Kepler cards like the K600 or NVS 510 always seem to work no matter what macOS version or the SMBIOS used. They all use the exact same Vbios. Whether branded as HP, Dell or PNY. Their are many more brands of GT 710 and some use a Vbios that creates problems with certain macOS versions. For example Zotac and Big Sur. We've determined with testing it's best to not use Big Sur with those GT 710s. Older versions like High Sierra, Mojave and Catalina are ok.

Here's the full list of all Kepler based Quadros that work with macOS.

Not sure why that is. May be because the iMac 14,2 used discrete Nvidia graphics similar to the GT 710s GPU and 15,1 used AMD Radeon R9 graphics instead.

Yes that’s what I thought, too, being that 14,2 had GT 7. But I was amazed it was plug and play under the different SMBIOS’s for you. I thought there was a trick to it or run a kext or something fancy in clover I will try with Catalina in a SFF that I just got up and running.

One of the moderators here has tested a new Asus GDDR5 GT 710 that was just released by Asus last July of 2020. He's saying it works OOB with Mojave through Big Sur. It is fanless and has 2GB of Vram. The model ends in CSM for "corporate stable model" which means they promise corporations that buy them support and availability for at least 36 months.

Looks like one of the best choices right now for those that can't find a compatible AMD card. Or because the AMD pricing has gotten much too high lately. I've seen one RX 580 8GB listed for $1900 on Newegg. o_O It looks like the GT 710 prices are even starting to go higher due to high demand. One of the few affordable non-mining cards you can get.

I've added this new GT 710 to the graphics card (LP) section of my OptiMac Buyer's Guide in post number one.
