Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

It is really great to see alpha support for both 802.11ac (WiFi 5) and 802.11ax (WiFi 6). Question:
  • When OpenCore 0.6.9 is released in about 2 weeks, which of the following should be added to the OpenIntelWireless EFI?
    • 1.3.0-stable (no WiFi 5 or WiFi 6)
    • 2.0.0-alpha
  • Note that 1.3.0-alpha is in the most recent EFI.
  • Unless I hear otherwise, I'll switch to 2.0.0-alpha.

This is good news... Fenvi served us well for years, but it's good to now have another alternative, especially of the Wifi 6 /6E variety.

** Speed Tests and Observations with New OpenIntelWireless 2.0.0-alpha Drivers **
Finally we have 192 Mbps/201 Mbps!! Much faster than then Fenvi FV-T919
802.11ac works, but I don't have 802.11ax so cannot test
See below (may need to disable 2.4 GHz SSID on some routers)

  • Download both the Big Sur and Catalina kexts.
    • Big Sur version will be inside a folder called Big Sur
    • Catalina version will be inside a folder called Catalina
    • Filename in both folders will be the same: AirportItlwm.kext
  • In each of these folders, rename AirportItlwm.kextas follows:
    • AirportItlwm-Catalina.kext
    • AirportItlwm-Big-Sur.kext
  • Mount EFI partition of macOS SSD and open the EFI/OC/Kexts folder.
  • Drag-and-drop the two files above into the EFI/OC/Kexts folder.
  • No changes are needed in config.plist
  • Reboot
Hello Casey, whenever I've tried loading IntelBluetoothFirmware and IntelBluetoothInjector, the Bluetooth card available at USB port HS14 disappears from the System Report. Also, the Bluetooth prefPane disappears from the System Preferences. However, the Intel Bluetooth card is clearly visible in Ioregistryexplorer:

Also, do you know if the new AirportItwlm kexts are compatible with the Intel AX210 WiFi adapter?

Might you be so kind to please point me to a troubleshooting article, if you know of one please? Thanks!

Hello @dehjomz,
  • Are you using the OpenIntelWireless EFI folder provided in this thread?
  • Have you physically disconnected the Fenvi? This includes disconnecting the Bluetooth USB cable.

From the OpenIntelWireless Compatibility page we have this, so unfortunately it's not yet supported. However, I'm not sure if they've updated the Compatibility page...

If you are using your own EFI, please have a look at the latest OpenIntelWireless version provided in this post. That might be the best first step...

OpenIntelWireless 2.0.0-alpha drivers were released earlier this morning. They (finally) support both WiFi 5 (802.11ac) and WiFi 6 (802.11ax), but they may not support all frequency bands at this time.

Here are some observations from the Z490 Vision D with 2.0.0-alpha drivers on Big Sur 11.3 public beta 8.
  • My Internet download speed is 200 Mbps on cable.
  • My Internet upload speed is 6 Mbps.
OpenIntelWireless 2.0.0-alpha:
  • CHT Global
  • Razzolink
  • OpenIntelWireless driver was only able to connect to 2.4 GHz band on my 802.11ac router
  • The driver worked properly after wake-from-sleep!
  • Basic Handoff is supported as shown (Stocks and Safari from my iPhone were handed off to the Mac). AirDrop did not work.
  • The speeds below are on the 802.11n network (WiFi 4).
  • After disabling 2.4 GHz SSIDs on the router, OpenIntelWireless finally connected to the 802.11ac 5 GHz band and the results are amazing!
    • CHT Global
    • Razzolink
  • Finally we have 192 Mbps and 201 Mbps!! Much faster than then Fenvi FV-T919. Virtually the same as Wired Ethernet!
  • On the Netgear Orbi Mesh router, we disable the 2.4 GHz SSID as follows:

Fenvi FV-T919:
  • CHT Global
  • Razzolink
  • Fenvi was connected to 5 GHz band on the same 802.11ac router
Wired Ethernet (1 Gbps):
  • Razzolink
  • KamaTera

If you are already using the OpenIntelWireless EFI from this post, it is very easy to use the new 2.0.0-alpha drivers as follows:
  • Download the Big Sur and Catalina versions from here.

I'm not sure I get this: the three kexts (the old one plus two new ones) will live together in the EFI/OC/Kexts folder, while only one (the old one) appears in the config.plist?

Looking at Z490 Vision D specs says it has the AX201, and looking at Z590 Vision D says it has AX200. I don't know if the specs are wrongly listed, but those 2 models are listed as compatible under MVM Gen 2 (IWX).

The specs are correctly listed:
  • AX201 is an Intel CNVi module
  • AX200 is a regular M.2 Key A/E module (this is nice because we can replace it with BCM94360NG, which is a natively supported Broadcom 802.11ac/BT 4.x module)

Hi,
After problems with Wake from sleep, (no wireless or BT keyboard/mouse only usb connected) i've disabled USBWakeFixup.kext and SSDT-USBW.aml. Now it's sleeping fine. (maybe my usb Wacom or Berhinger Audio usb...)
After that i tried to enable SSDT-GPRW.aml (just for testing it) and it looks to have no effect, i still can wake from usb keyboard/mouse...
BTW New OpenIntelWireless 2.0.0-alpha Drivers are working fine here, thanks:thumbup:
I've just finished my first watercooled VisionD with distro plate today.:headbang:

Lovely!!

From MacRumors:

Big Sur 11.4 will support AMD 6000 series GPUs including 6800, 6800XT, 6900XT. (6700XT is unknown at this time.)

Note: Until 11.4 Public Beta is released, please do not discuss the developer version. I simply referenced a publicly posted article.

Welcome to the club. The Z490 Vision D is a great board for hackintoshing...

Although its successor is limping along trying to be as great but missing the mark and needing a little more time in the gym.
