[Success] AMD RX6000 Series working in macOS

I posted a screenshot earlier but got deleted. An AMD engineer was claimed he has a unrelased beta version already support big navi but there are some issue they are still working on it.
I don't think we can believe that though, it's just a screenshot of a Facebook message thread with all names blacked out. Anyone can say those things.

In response to that screenshot, a user on another site who has a good reputation in the Hackintosh and Mac communities claimed that he has heard direct from an AMD developer that Apple writes all their own drivers for all of AMD, Intel and NVidia GPUs. The GPU manufacturers send them the hardware and specifications and Apple does all the code. Which would certainly explain why Apple GPU drivers often have lots of bugs not found in the Linux and Windows drivers :)

I don't know if that's true, either. But I'd be more inclined to believe that than a Facebook screenshot with all the names blacked out.

All that said, I am a little confident for 11.4. But that's based on the remarks from the Octane and Redshift developers - whose names we do know, and whose positions make it believable that they might know - plus my personal belief that it's more likely than not that Apple will support these cards eventually.

It's all speculation. We can but wait.

Normally I'd say that it's not certain enough that anyone should go out and buy a card for use in macOS alone. But right now they're so valuable that if by any miracle someone can get one within 20% of RRP they should definitely buy it, regardless of macOS support; it's an investment :) I paid £200 over RRP for my 6900XT and right now I could still make a £250+ profit on it. Madness.

It's still 50/50 chance. Even for Nvidia drivers, there was an apple employee email circulated in forums, about apple releasing Nvidia drivers "soon". We all know how "soon" became "never".

I am feeling quite positive but I wasn't burnt with the Nvidia fiasco. There has been a bit more talk on the Redshift forum but just speculation really, even though Panos did say to check back regularly for updates. Is there any possibility it could come in the public release of 11.3? I would assume it would come in a Beta if it ever does.

Unless maybe it is being Beta tested by select developers and the Octane guy assumed that was in the wider developer release? Then we could see it in the 11.3 public release and everything would make sense. There is some real speculation for you right there.

Yeah I'm almost certain it wouldn't come without first being in a beta.

I said a couple of weeks ago that I was confident that if the drivers do come, they'd come in a beta 1. That's the standard practice: release a beta when the set of features in question is feature complete, and then subsequent betas contain only bug fixes or minor tweaks to those same features. After the Octane remarks I did wonder if maybe there was a slightly greater chance that beta 4, 5 or 6 might bring them in as a stealth addition. But of course that hasn't happened.

There will almost certainly be at least one 11.3 RC before we get to 11.4 beta 1, and maybe even a beta 7. I'll still be trying any new 11.3 releases as soon as they land, but I'd be amazed to see any change.

My theory (hope) remains that the Octane and Redshift devs were told it was coming in 11.3, then it got delayed, and so 11.4 is the next opportunity and remains plausible.

I'am still happy with my Radeon VII in my Hack.
TBH look like the way Apple has taken is far away from AMD (or NVIDIA), M1 is saying that..
...the future next M chip will be probably the "tomb stone" for NON APPLE GPU? :?:

( ...every now and then some users pop up writing "price drop here"...in wich galaxy they live? )

Yeah, the days of non-Apple GPUs may well be numbered. But we're still hoping that that number is a little higher than 0 :)

The future ahead of us is chrystalclear, but Apple started selling a Mac Pro for up to 50.000 bucks and claimed it was created because content creators "want to upgrade their GPUs on a regular shedule". People who bought that machine at a very high price won't be happy when GPU-Support stops one year after the machine released. The computer is still in stores today and will be sold for many more months to come.

Maybe the kext will come when the next generation of GPUs is right around the corner, but I think we will get some new GPUs for the Mac Pro until Intel-Support is dropped.

I am no expert at all but I can't help but wonder if OS X can run on Ryzen architecture that it is not built for then why will M1 finish the Hackintosh completely? I guess the GPU is another kettle of fish as we have seen before and currently are now, however I would not underestimate the ingenuity of hackers they are clever bastards.

But is the M1 chip the real reason we are already up to Beta 6 for 11.3, and still no RC? Could be that they are having real problems with the M1, and their own GPU in it. I can't remember any other mid term beta getting all the way up to 6 before, and RC is pretty much beta 7 by another name. If I remember right 11.2 had at least 2 RCs before it was released. This didn't happen that often before the M1 chip.

I completely agree, but I also don't understand how it's acceptable to wait 6 months for new drivers. For anyone doing GPU bound work on Mac, they will be almost always 6 months behind Windows alternatives. It was similar for 5700xt as well, proper support came long after the release.
