Stork's MyHero II Build: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z370 HERO X - i7-8700K - AMD RX 580 - Thunderbolt 3

I rebooted the system, and it appears to work. No hot-plugging needed. Plugging in another USB thumb drive in the dock caused the USB thumb drive to appear on the Desktop.

The SysPref Network has a lot more Thunderbolt and Ethernet available.

Amazing! System Information --> Thunderbolt has even the Thunderbolt Bus showing up!

The OWC that I grabbed to use for this testing is an older OWC TB3 13 port dock that I got form my 2017 MBP.

I think we have a working TB3 TR card.
That's more like it!

Updated my Post #1 with the information on the flashed Titan Ridge PCIe card. Works great with my OWC Thunderbolt 3 dock and OWC Thunderbolt 3 external NVMe SSD case.

(If this is the wrong place for this post, please point me to the correct one. Thanks.)

I have ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO (WI-FI) | i9 9900K | Vega 64 8GB running Catalina 10.15.7. I built the SSDTs for USB to limit them to 15. This is all running splendidly, without any issues. I've OC'd to 4.6.

BUT, I want to future-proof this setup before I'm forced into a new M1, and out of the hackintosh world forever :( and so want to install Big Sur. I'm running Big Sur on several "real" macs already.

I've hunted all over, but cannot find anyone here who is running BS on a ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO (WI-FI). I believe that I might be able to move this machine to Big Sur by updating to Clover 5127 and altering the config.plist to include a "Quirks" section.

What I'm hoping for by posting is that someone might have a good set of quirks for this machine... or heck, even better yet, a whole working EFI folder. If neither of those, then has anyone here attempted getting this hardware to work with BS, and is willing to offer specific advice.

I've read through all the generic stuff on Big Sur for other machines, and if I have to re-invent the wheel for myself, so be it... I'm just asking with my fingers crossed to see if there is a good starting point for my hardware.

TIA.

@kentval, I've finally given up on Clover, moving to OpenCore 0.6.5 running Catalina. I recommend using OpenCore. The OpenCore guide is well written and easy to follow. I'll be updating Post #1 soon.

As for Big Sur, I always advise upgrading to the newest version of macOS when they release the ".3" version as most the bugs are found and corrected. I learned this approach way back in the early macOS 10.0 days. However, @pastrychef updates to the latest macOS on day one. So, YMMV.

BTW, I did a test install of Big Sur. I upgraded using OpenCore, and it was an easy install.

Big Sur has been solid for me.

My system has been spending a lot of time sleeping because I've been playing with my Raspberry Pi a lot in the last two weeks... But, still, the system continues to run fine. It does scheduled Time Machine backups and wakes whenever I need it.

Thanks pastrychef... for this, and all your previous help as well.

Hello to the Hero X users
I recently changed from fakeSMC (Multibeast) to virtualSMC 1.2 (OpenCore, OC gen X 0.66)
on my ASUS Maximus Hero X board Big Sur 12.2.1

virtualSMC does not let me adjust fan speeds. I use Macs Fan Control. All readings are OK. Temps, Speeds
But fan speed can't be adjusted. with fakeSMC I had no problems before. I can't put the fans on low speed any more. Silent mode in the BIOS also has no effect.

Do you have the same issue with Hero X motherboard and virtualSMC?

Many Thanks.

Hi Stork. MacOS 11.3 is almost here. I'm thinking of installing it. Right now I'm in Mojave 14.6. Do you recommend the update? Are you planning to do it in this build in the near future?
