What BIOS are you on and settings?
I don't think it's the SSDT-BRG0 that's causing the issue.

Does this also happen on a clean install?
It's 2002 Bios.
Haven't tested a clean install yet.
I'm trying to have the installed one run.
Could it be corrupted?

Tomorrow I try.

Ah yeah you need to update your BIOS and follow my recommended settings. If you dont want to update your BIOS you can try this EFI.

Pay attention to these BIOS Settings

CPU Configuration

  • MSR Lock Control - [Disabled]

Boot

  • Above 4G Decoding - [On]

CSM (Compatability Support Module)

  • Launch CSM - [Disabled]

Hello guys, Please help me with CSM Support, I'm unable to switch it to Disabled:

I was setting bios options one at a time, saving&rebooting between each one, until I hit CSM Support. As soon as I toggled it to Disabled, then Save & Reboot, upon reboot, my monitor goes into some kind of sleeping mode. I have a full description of my monitor behavior in this forum, if anyone is interested:

But in summary, I see no messages on the screen, the monitor is dark as if my computer is in a sleep mode, and the only way to resolve this is to go through CMOS_SW-reset, starting all over again.
I went ahead and set all other options as from the post#1 above, leaving only this CSM Support as enabled. Saved & Reboot - works fine.

The question is, with CSM Support being enabled, what are my limitations at this point? Why everywhere on Gigabyte bios description, they all recommend to set to disabled? And how shall I proceed? I really hope this is an optional configuration.

All those settings are already set that way.
As I said Big Sur Recovery boots up correctly.

Why the Bios has to be updated?

Did you try the EFI from my previous post? There were some changes in the BIOS related to MSR lock and AWAC that Big Sur is picky with.

Like I said earlier, if Big Sur Recovery loads fine try doing a clean install on a spare drive to see if it loads. Might be an issue with an incompatible kext or something.

Thanks a lot!
I will do and report.

With my EFI the system boots Recovery correctly.
With my EFI the system gets stuck at the image below.
With your EFI the system reboots into a loop.

I have a Bios 1704. Is it too old?
Should I progress to a new Bios?
Which Bios version would you suggest?

Was this on a clean install? or just trying to boot your current installation?

Yeah try ver 3301

I believe the X299-A has the BIOS Flashback button so you can revert back if necessary

Jeez man, two PMs, and the same post in two threads? I've posted here every day for weeks, you don't need to scream to get a reply :p

Anyway, obviously the EFI I posted works fine for me. However you have an X5700. So try adding boot arg agdpmod=pikera

Also, I uploaded a more recent EFI than that - there's one dated 23rd November, in this thread. It's 99% identical, but the 23/11/20 EFI is the one I used to update to Big Sur, so I'd use that one to be safe. I've re-attached it here.

This EFI has AirportItlwm disabled, as the kext included is still for Catalina. That will need to be updated to the BigSur version if you plan to enable AirportItlwm. But I don't recommend enabling it for install/update, only once the Big Sur install is known to be working fine.
Hello TheBloke,
I am trying to adopt your EFI to my new rig I'm building, but the installation freezes right at the SMCSuperIO entry.
There are some slight differences between our configurations, I wonder if you could give me an advice on how to proceed. Mine is Designare EX vs 10G of yours, and I have i9-9960, this I don't think should matter.
I'm not re-attaching the EFI because this is exactly what I downloaded from your post.

Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

I was asking if there's a preferred Bios version to install.
Thanks I go with 3301.

This is an upgrade from Catalina to Big Sur and not a clean install.
The Catalina Backup boots up regularly as the Big Sur Recovery does.

Thanks!
