Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

My ASRock X570 Taichi Ryzentosh with RX 580 GPU is also connected to the same monitor. Will see if HDMI blank-out occurs with RX 580. My Z490 Vision D and Z390 Test Bench are connected to an AOC AGON monitor, both via HDMI and both with RX 580 -- with no blanking problem. So this might affect RX 5000 series only.
@maeluse,

I've been using the ASRock X570 Taichi connected to the same 4K display via HDMI. Results so far:

ASRock X570 Taichi AMD RX 580 HDMI Asus Designo 4K Monitor No screen blackouts
Gigabyte B550 Vision D AMD RX 5600 XT HDMI Asus Designo 4K Monitor Many screen blackouts
Gigabyte B550 Vision D AMD RX 5600 XT DisplayPort Asus Designo 4K Monitor No screen blackouts

Hi Casey,

Thank you as always for creating this incredible community of knowledge and support.

I followed the Intel WIFI / Bluetooth thread (and now updated to the latest OC 0.6.7.) but haven't been successful in getting Bluetooth to work. It said something about "resetting the Bluetooth module" but not sure what that meant or how to do it. Perhaps that's why I cant seem to connect to old or new connections in Bluetooth. I did try turning it on and off, so maybe that was it? Everything seems to appear correct in System Report. Any things to check would be helpful! Otherwise, if I were going to go back to the YOUBO card, is there anything I need to tinker around with in the OC folder or do I simply just reinstall it.

Thanks in advance!

- Jonathan

This is very easy to answer:
  • If you plan to flash the Thunderbolt controller, you will get significantly more reliable Thunderbolt performance with an on-board Thunderbolt controller.
  • If you don't plan to flash the controller, an add-in PCIe card will work just fine.
Ah, OK! Thanks. I just was reading in the first post of this page that you advice Thunderbolt Monitors must be avoided.

What is the use to have Thunderbolt on MB, if can not be used on TB monitors?

Hi @CaseySJ,

Thanks for your input. It's interesting to note that we both have exactly the same problem, concerning the HDMI connection and the HDMI only, contrary to other users who reported glitches with DP connection too.

My card is a AMD RX 5700 XT but I guess both cards have 99% of their genome in common. It controls an ultra wide ViewSonic VP3481 monitor operating at 3440x1440@60 Hz resolution, which is kinda comparable to 4K. So, our test setup look almost identical. That's really good to know. The only substantial difference is the OS Version: I still run Catalina.

Have you already tried by chance the new Big Sur update (11.2.3)? I have seen that the graphic driver was updated. All hopes are permitted then!

On my side, I tried out switching off HDMI 2.0 from the OSD, but as a user already reported it here previously, the screen in this mode was not able to operate the ultra wide resolution at 60Hz and fell back to 30Hz, pretty unusable then... not an acceptable alternative for me.

If the limitations of Thunderbolt monitors are acceptable to you, then of course you're welcome to use a Thunderbolt monitor. My responsibility is to point out these "limitations" so buyers can make informed decisions. The best way to use a Thunderbolt monitor is with the original, un-flashed firmware. But keep in mind the limitations we mentioned in Note 8c.

I'm actually running 11.3 Beta 3 on this 12-core/24-thread AMD Ryzen 9 3900X.

Keep in mind that there are three DisplayPorts and one HDMI on the RX 5600 and 5700 GPUs. So better to use DisplayPort only if your monitor allows it.

Hello Jonathan,

First let's address the big elephant in the room --> please do not quote guides and mini-guides in their entirety as stated on Line 2 of the guide/mini-guide.

To reset the Bluetooth Module, press SHIFT-OPTION while clicking the Bluetooth icon in menu bar. You will then see the option directly (Big Sur) or in the Debug sub-menu (Catalina).

Oh yes, I forgot that you tested the beta version! ...

Ok so the fact that you still have screen blackouts with this version makes me a bit less optimistic for the future.

My graphic card have two DP and two HDMI actually. I wish I could use the DP, but as I already wrote, a second computer is plugged to this screen and has only DP available... no luck.

I was able to reset the Bluetooth module. Thanks for the tip. Still not working though. If I want to pop the YOUBO back in, do I need to fool with the OC folder (removing kexts, etc.) or should it be fine.

Thanks again.
