Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Another suggestion is to run Activity Monitor and sort the list by % CPU. Then keep the window running while you perform those "mundane tasks"! When a crash occurs, note the names of the top 1 or 2 items in the Activity Monitor list.
Also consider whether your memory is okay. I had months of instability at random times and I thought it was gigabyte’s fault or the voltage settings under Xmp mode. Turned out I had a bad memory module from Corsair. Strange how memory less than 6 months old fails. But it did. I isolated the failed DIMM and put it into a different motherboard and it failed there as well, under stock settings.

Corsair accepted my RMA request and my new DIMMs are in the mail… hopefully the new ones work. But in the meantime, the remaining Corsair dimms I have are working just fine and I haven’t had any stability issues since.

Hi @CaseySJ ,
I know it's not entire related to this build, but I'm trying to get an Titan Ridge Card working on my older system.
Z77X-UD5H, since it works on a MacPro 5,1 I thought I give it a try.
Now, I flashed the card with the 'TitanRidgeNVM43-Elias64Fr-Mod' firmware.
Did the jumper wire from Pin 3 & 5 and inserted it into the 3th PCIe slot on the board marked as PCIe x4.
But nor the System Information or IORegistryExplorer sees it.
Where do I need to start searching or do you have an idea where I can best start an topic around it ?

To confirm:
  • Even with no USB devices connected to either of the two internal F_USB headers, the system does not enter sleep?
Other questions:
  • Are you expecting to use an AMD GPU eventually?
  • Is there an Nvidia GPU installed in the system right now?
  • Are there any PCIe cards installed in the system (other than WiFi/BT card)?
  • If you physically remove the Fenvi FV-T919, does the system enter sleep and stay asleep?
Hi @CaseySJ,

Thanks again for your ideas:
  • The system does not enter sleep even with the Fenvi card removed. It always wakes up after 2 seconds and does not go to sleep gain. I was waiting 10 minutes...
  • I am using the internal UHD 630 graphics only but will buy an AMD GPU when they will be available again at reasonable prices.
  • No other PCIe cards or Nvidia GPU installed.
I also reset the BIOS from scratch. Nothing seems to help. It's very strange, but fortunately not that important for a desktop. I'm just curious because sleep / wake seems to work for most of the users here.

Hello @BerndVP,

Some questions:
  • Is the jumper wire connected between the top and middle pins of the vertical 5-pin header (when holding it in your hands with PCI pins facing the floor)?
  • Have you recently updated the BIOS on your motherboard?
  • Also try NVM 33 of Designare Z390 (yes you read that right)!

I would also recommend the following:
  1. BIOS F5 instead of the newer ones.
  2. Try disabling XMP Memory Profile in BIOS Setup.

- Yes, I did jumper wire connection like that
- It’s running the F16 Mod 11 Bios
- Ok, will try to flash it with that version.
-> what about you're NVM50 Mod for the Titan Ridge Card I found on a post of you?
Repository of Patched Thunderbolt Firmware Files

Extra note:
I accidentally flashed the ‘green’ chip too, but I had a backup made of it first so I flashed it back.

So I flashed it to the Z390 Firmware as you suggested, but no succes.
Still not seen by the system.
Can this be an SMBIOS issue? I'm using iMac13,2

Please change "device-id" temporarily to "923E0000" and see if it makes any difference. Also please have a look at the posts here with @shadewalker:
Hi @CaseySJ ,
this didn't work. When I changed as suggested by you, the system booted up just fine, but when I tried to send it to sleep, the screen was showing this:

I will now follow the guide you pointed me to. Thanks for you assistance!

Hi @CaseySJ,
  • 1. and 2. together worked! Nevertheless, the monitor must be reset manually to get the login screen. This seems to be a HDMI problem between the 4k monitor and the internal UHD 630 graphics.
  • With BIOS F5 and the XMP Memory Profile enabled the computer shuts down completely and reboots after "wakening" it up. Error message: Failed to get sleep type. rc:0xe00002c7
  • BIOS F20b and disabled XMP Memory Profile does not work, computer starts again within 2 seconds after sleep.
So it has something to do with the BIOS settings, but I do not want to loose 10% performance when disabling the XMP Memory Profile. Many thanks again for your help!

Hi,

I just received all my parts and made an assembly without the case (not received yet) to check if everything is ok. The BIOS version is 5. It's better off sticking with this version of bios or updating.

Thank you,

Glad to hear it, sort of!

With XMP disabled we can set the memory multiplier to 26.66 or 29.33 to clock the memory at either 2666MHz or 2933MHz. Both of these are supported speeds in macOS and should allow sleep to work.
