[Guide] Lenovo Legion y530-y540 Laptop on Catalina 10.15

Hi guys,

I'm wondering is there any possibility to connect external monitor to Y540?

Hello all!

You can try DisplayLink converter. I use DisplayLink USB 3.0 to DVI kit, which comes with extra DVI to HDMI and DVI to VGA adapters. I ordered two bundles from Aliexpress and they both do their job very well.
However, the performance of these bundles is not as good as discrete or internal GPU and may cause some freezes or artifacts in games and/or high-res media.

I managed to update from Mojave to Big Sur.
here are the steps I followed in case anyone needs them.
- Downloaded Big Sur.
- Replace EFI with latest(opencore) from @xiaoM4095 Github. rename config_your_cpu.plst to config.plst
- Install and reboot to fix bios.
@xiaoM4095 's github has a script to fix it, but as I'm not on Windows I decided to do everything in the script manually in Bios Advanced Settings.
- To enter Bios Advanced Settings: turn on computer press F2, when in Bios interface, press [ Fn + o] then
press F10 and save, will reboot with a debug message, press F2 to go to Advanced settings.
- [Legacy UART] is in Debug Settings -> Kernel Debug Serial -> Kernel Debug Serial Port [Legacy UART]]
- Bios Lock and GPIO are in PCH-IO Configuration -> Security Conf -> Bios Lock [Disabled] & GPIO [enabled]
- CFG is in Power & Performance -> CPU Power Management Conf -> CPU Lock Configuration -> CFG Lock
(CPU LOCK Configuration is the last item you have to scroll down to see it.)
- DVMT is in System Agents (SA) Conf -> Graphics Conf -> DVMT Pre-Allocated [64M]

- F10 to save setting .
- Boot into Mac installer HDD and wait. it will reboot many times.
So far it's working flawlessly.

How is big sur performance vs mojave?
me also still in Mojave.
btw> did you change the BOS, replace the EFI and then download big sur straight from appstore?

steps are as in the order they are written above, first download Big sur...
for performance I have not used it enough to judge :)

If I install, and it did not, work. how can I fix EFI? I'm on catalina and I've only tried swapping my old OC EFI with this new one and it doesn't boot. I've attached the error on my machine. I'm using Lenovo y540 with 9th gen processor. I've patched my bioa already before applying the efi but i'm having errors.

it looks like a secure boot error (not sure though) .
did you disable secure boot in bios?
edit:
find in config.plst
<key>SecureBootModel</key>
<string>j680</string>
and changed it to
<key>SecureBootModel</key>
<string>Disabled</string>

I managed to make it boot with the config settings. the problem now is the wifi. I'm confused why the old OC EFI has working wifi and bt while the latest EFI has broken wifi & bt. I'm trying EFI first before going ahead and upgrading to big sur as I'm still on catalina.

hello no one helped me with my issue?

Guys have you fixed the headphone problem?
Mine are not sounding good, idk how to explain it.

:(
