but the one thing I've been struggling to do is get the display brightness to work.
Same here.

From what I've seen my SSDT and DSDT patches are fine, but still no dice. It's my girlfriend's work laptop too, which most of the time is hooked up to an external display so is not a problem, but when she decides to work directly from it the lack of brightness control is... an isssue.

I've gone ahead and changed the SMBIOS S/N on here but it is still identified as a MacBookPro14,1

The current problem list for it is:
Laptop display is an External Display (Brightness doesn't work)
Microphone doesn't work right (But it doesn't work on linux and the laptop is course known for it)
Sleep is broken
and for whatever reason, when the power cable isn't plugged in and the computer is booted up into macOS, logging in just straight up halts the system and turns it off, no idea why.

I'll continue to work on it but if you guys have any progress please submit back :]

Hey there,

So I've been working on one of these machines, and as a matter of fact I managed to successfully install macOS Big Sur on to one of them, most basic functions work being ports, camera, touch, graphics, sound and wireless (via OpenIntelWireless), but the one thing I've been struggling to do is get the display brightness to work.

I managed to make an OpenCore configuration that gets it to boot with the majority of things said above working, but the display however doesn't show up as a MacBook Pro display, more acting like its an external display and having all ways of changing the brightness disabled.

I don't know if its a problem with one of the SSDTs/DSDTs or something but I've also tried other things like brightness kexts to see if there's any change to no avail. (Let me know if you want the OC EFI folder to try)
Hi – yes, I'd love to see your EFI! I haven't tried to update OC since 0.6.4 – it works and I like it when it works ;) – but I do want to try Big Sur on an external drive. So yes please :)

Edit: Ah, thanks for not showing that post to me, forum. Downloading.

I was pretty impressed myself with how this booted, I basically copied all the renaming of the devices from the Clover configuration and the Kernel patches from the clover one (Excluding the Mojave version specific ones and the AppleBacklight one because it didn't work) and added all the other Kexts and ACPI files.

I've also risked trying the Reset NVRAM on the laptop and it seemed to worked without bricking it (I'm a T440 Owner and it bricks mine, the Yoga C930 is a system of a good friend of mine)

if WiFi doesn't work right away using the Intel Wireless (for Intel WiFi Card users), I read up somewhere that the IO80211 Family kext has to be force loaded in the OC configuration, otherwise for Broadcom users just replace the files with the Broadcom kexts and add them to your OC Config.

And thats basically as far as I got, 11.2 works, the Original NVME actually worked which was really good to see and now we're just trying to see what we can do as well as if you guys have an ideas as to Fixing any existing issues.

Hope I'm much help with providing you guys an OC configuration :)

Have you enabled debugging in OpenCore? This will give you a good starting point in helping us figure out the problem.

I'm surprised to hear that you haven't gotten this running yet! I used your EFI folder from the other thread and have had Big Sur running since mid-December with two OS updates. I'm pretty sure we have the same triple boot setup. Have you update to the new BIOS? That was something I wanted to try but I've been using your DSDT as I think our machines are indentical down to the exact model and I haven't wanted to invest the time in trying to figure out what changes (if any) would need to be made. I am curious to update BIOS to see if it will help with mic/speaker issues in Linux/MacOS.

Here is my EFI folder, maybe add debug commands while installing in case there are issues. I removed UUID, ROM, and serial numbers but other than that it's identical to mine.

I stupidly updated the lenovo bios to 8gcn37ww.exe and now I've well and truly broken my osx mojave that was working nicely.. I've spent the afternoon trying to opencore to boot it with no luck..

Don't suppose anyone has the installer for the bios where all the patches and stuff worked? :'(
Open to any/all suggestions...

When you update the BIOS it leaves the CMOS settings in an unknown state.
You should reset to defaults and then redo all of the adjustments that you had to make when you originally installed the OS.

elvisor, try re-installing to see if that solves the problem. i also updated to the same BIOS and i have the old BIOS file but after reverting Big Sur would not boot. Re-installing does not wipe the data unless you actively choose to do that, it re-installs the core os and keeps your system intact. I did this after reverting to old BIOS but I am curious to see what the result will be on your end if you re-install with new BIOS. Are you using a DSDT with OpenCore?
