Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

  • Clean install without any migration of data or apps from previous Mac OS versions. I only installed Firefox and Intel Power Gadget so far.
  • I will do a memory test tomorrow and post the results plus also check if screensavers play a role
I'll keep you posted and again thank you for your super fast answers :)
I've run memtest86 for half a day (4 passes without any error), so memory seems fine. At the moment I'm running a 3DMark11 in a loop under Windows 10 which seems stable for now (no issues after about 1h) - note that under Windows I use the Nvidia 1070.
I also tested whether the sceensaver under BigSur plays any role: The hackintosh was able to start the screensaver without any freeze, so there also seems to be no (direct) connection. I disabled the screensaver and ran some stress test with the Intel Power Gadget and maybe after 20 minutes the computer froze. :(

Next thing I'll try to throw out the Nvidia card and see if this changes anything (if not, then only the WiFi card and the NVMe remain as potential cause of the error).

If you have any more suggestions what I should try, please fire away :)

Kudos -- this is exactly the process-of-elimination we need to follow. If removing the Nvidia card helps, then we can use a SSDT to disable that card instead of relying upon the WEG parameter -wegnegpu.

@CaseySJ:

Well, I need your help. If I install the new security update for Catalina (the one released on Feb 1), it goes all the way until what seems to be the end of the install, then it hangs (turns out it hangs because of a KP). I've tried a bunch of things, but can't get it to install.

I've included the resulting note that macOS provides after a failed start, and you can see it seems to be focused on ionetworking and ethernet modules in the OS.

But on Big Sur, no issue, by the way, even with the latest beta (11.3), and even on the same hardware and with the same EFI (I just dual boot between the two, that's why I say same hardware).

Has anyone else reported this? Any pointers you might think of?

Thanks in advance...

Does anyone know what to do if your Fenvi FT-919 card does show Bluetooth and WiFi connection but does not enable handoff or unlock with Apple Watch?

First time I booted with this card inserted it showed Bluetooth in Systeminfo but it would not find or connect to my trackpad.

When I booted into a clean live install MacOS from USB stick I could see the trackpad and connect to it without problem.

After that I rebooted into the fully installed MacOS again and I could directly work with the trackpad without any problems or connecting again.

But handoff does not work but it is turned on in Preferences. Also it can’t turn on unlock with Apple Watch. It keeps loading but does not do anything.

Does anyone know what to do to fix this?

I did try the intel WiFi+BT EFI in the past but got rid of it before I installed this Fenvi card. And I’m using the normal O.C. 0.6.5 again.
I have this card and Handoff/Watch unlock is working pretty well. I did add some third-party antennas for the card...my watch does have to be pretty close to the computer for unlocking which I figure is due to time-of-flight calculations. It's not as distance sensitive for access to Safari keychain passwords, Apple Pay confirmations, etc.

My configuration is using basically stock EFI folder from this thread...

The kernel panic is related to com.apple.driver.AppleIntelI210Ethernet. I see that you've disabled FakePCIID_Intel_I225-V.kext. Does the Catalina installation problem occur:
  • Whether this kext is enabled or disabled?
  • When this kext is enabled, but an Ethernet cable is not plugged into the port?

Other suggestions:
  • Have you tried adding Device Property "RM,device-id" for the i225V port as shown?

  • Have you tried enabling SIP with csr-active-config set to 0x00000000?

So, I have tried with SIP enabled and disabled. Doesn't make any change in the behavior - still gets a KP. I have not tried enabling iV225 port, and trying out those things you've mentioned but I will. As I have to do a complete install to see if it fails, this may take a bit of time.

Odd that 11.3 of Big Sur works just fine with the same EFI config on the same hardware.....I wonder what Apple changed with that new supplemental security update.

But thanks again for your quick response! I'll let you know what I find out.....

I have a new Vision build and am unable to install Mac OS. I am using a usb 3.2 C jump drive (not sure if thats a problem?). I activated verbose and get the attached error codes. I am using the latest open core (attached)
As an aside I can boot windows from the picker which I already installed. Any help would be appreciated thanks
opencore 6.5.

Please check if CFG-Lock is disabled in BIOS —> Boot.
