On the bluetooth side, I struggled for some time with other cards, it was working for everything (continuity/sidecar etc) but watch unlock would only work while the watch BT connection was on. Not sure if you saw the USB dongle having the same problem.

dont have a watch..(yet)...wife(accountant) has not given the go ahead yet..lol..
.but so far for everything else it works...and thanks to you too for all the info and help you have given...

Glad this guide is helping you. Please post your EFI with any requests for help as noted in Post #1. Based on the issues you reported, I believe you will find your answers by reviewing Known Issues. If the Known Issues don't resolve your problems, post an update with your EFI.

@henryrym - one other thing, if you don't resolve the issues, please include your specific video port / connector configuration (e.g. 1 DP out from PC to DP input on display) and make sure you indicate whether you are using any adapters (e.g. DP -> HDMI).
This guide is absolutely brilliant, many thanks!!!

Thanks a lot for your kind offer of help, which I do need with getting sound through my DP.

I've tried deleting the 'No-hda-gfx' line, changed 'No-hda-gfx' to 'hda-gfx' etc, etc, but with no success. I either get no sound at all or am stuck with sound properties only allowing internal speaker or line out - no output through my DP output.

I'm attaching my EFI. I'm on Bios 02.15 as that's how my mini came. I'm using your 0.6.6 EFI (am seeing an 'ocs:no scheme for bootprotect at 5 index, context <security>!' message on boot up - didn't have it with oc 0.6.5) and Big Sur 11.2.

My mini comes with two DP ports and a VGA socket, I use only one monitor and use a DP to DP cable (no adapters) from the mini inner DP port.

Help, can't upload my EFI, why?! Only files allowed, so attaching my config.plist, the EFI is exactly your 0.0.6 rev 2 version.

Help, can't upload my EFI, why?! Only files allowed, so attaching my config.plist, the EFI is exactly your 0.0.6 rev 2 version.
Try compressing (zipping) your EFI before uploading.

Are you certain that the config.plist you attached is on your boot volume and is the one that OC is loading? The 'bootprotect at 5 index' error you posted would occur if you still had bootprotect in your config.plist's Misc>Security block (which would have been in a config.plist prior to OC 0.6.6).

@henryrym - I suspect that the config.plist you uploaded is not your current config.plist. The config.plist you uploaded still includes "No-hda-gfx" in DeviceProperties (the property you said you removed when trying to get sound to work). Just upload your complete EFI (with sanitized PlatformInfo>Generic>MLB,SystemSerialNumber,SystemUUID) and we can take a look.

It’s been over 10 years and I can’t afford to buy a Apple Mac. My 2014 Retina MBP suffered from screen gate and now literally hangs under my desk blowing hard, being sad considering the stuff I put it through.

Since BigSur I can’t go back to a MacMini 2012. So that’s off the table.

Is the HP Elitedesk G5 mini stable on BigSur, does everything work, can I use it as a production machine and lastly..... can I use 2 4K screens?

Can it restore from a timemachine once installed?

Any experience?

If you don't like to read a lot, read the last message in red below first.

My answers are based purely on my experience (your experience may vary, since a hackintosh is NOT a "set-it-and-forget-it" system. You need to know what you're doing, be willing to learn and have patience to maintain it.

For me, the answers are yes, yes and yes.

...and lastly..... can I use 2 4K screens?
Anyone else have experience with 4K screens and UHD 630 on our HackMini's?

Can it restore from a timemachine once installed?
Yes - this saved me once after a catastrophic hacking experiment.

Having said all that, if you need a production machine and you want a MacMini, price the real MacMini 2020 with Apple's M1 chip. Prices are reasonable and the performance (at least as measured by GeekBench) is better than anything the G5 can deliver. Truth is, if you don't know what you're doing, a hackintosh can end up being more expensive in time, effort and aggravation than the real thing. Bottom line: if you're building a hackintosh motivated only by the money savings, you're going to be disappointed. The reward is in the technical tinkering and mastering the skill.

@rafale77 's HackMini (the best performing G5 Mini of the ones I've seen): GeekBench5

Real MacMini 2020: GeekBench5

I will completely second what @deeveedee says.
It can be a completely production worthy machine. Mine is. It will run dual 4K without any problem. I am running on one 43" 4K monitor and don't see why it wouldn't do dual screen. I ran sidecar with it.

Getting an M1 Mac Mini can be very price competitive if... you don't need a lot of storage or RAM. It all depends on what you will be doing with it. Apple's base price is reasonable but not the 16GB RAM and upgraded storage versions. There is no option to go higher than 32GB and I am running with 64GB RAM and 3TB of NVME SSDs for a total net cost of <$1000. Something to keep in mind.

If you want to go down the path of a hack, be ready for Adventure Bilbo Baggins style. This thread and all the efforts from @deeveedee in particular are made to make it as easy as possible but... you will run into some issues as some point which will require patience and willingness to learn.

And yes... TimeMachine works fine. I backup and restore mine that way from machine to machine. Actually really everything that I can think of works so far with the Bluetooth accommodation of the watch unlock having been the last thing I had to fix.

I have to agree with deeveedee and rafale77 both...I have the HP g4 and the new mac mini m1..love them both...been hackintoshing for along time...and it is filled with grief and rewards..Love my Hp...and with all the help here is an awesome machine. And upgradable...but the M1 mini is cheaper in the long run for a production machine.
But the fun of hackintoshing is hard to give up...I am almost 65...been a fun journey...

Ok now compressed my EFI and attached - the config file in previous post was your original unedited one as I had mucked about with mine and got nowhere, thought it might not worth be unravelling.

I've reset the NVRAM and done a fresh install, deleted the 'no-hda-gfx' line - again no sound through DP - my system as per previous post other than this is a fresh install on to an SSD - output through DP on mini to DP on monitor, no adapters on cabling.

I'm 73 and want to get to grips with hacks, more comfortable with Clover but hope to pick OC up with time. Have built many pc's but only a few hacks in the past.

I'm wanting this machine to do photo editing (approx 40K family pictures) with Photoshop and Lightroom. Can do in Windows, but whole family uses MBooks, iPad & iPhones so all comfortable to use Mac OS, especially Big Sur. Have been using a Haswell iMac, but it has a cracked screen, works but iffy, so the Mini would be a replacement for when the iMac gives up the ghost. An M1 mini might suit, but doesn't have the RAM and storage we need.

Hope you can help
