@deeveedee : Thanks so much for this guide, I have a 2018 "Mac Mini" running quite well. It is more responsive than my Mac Pro 6,1. Currently moving stuff over to it so I can sell the Mac Pro!

That's great to hear! Glad this guide helped you. What "version" of HP EliteDesk 800 G4 do you have (your signature doesn't specify "Mini"). If not a mini, did you create your own USB port mapping?

Hi! It is the 35w version of the Mini with BIOS 02.14.01 Rev.A. Running macOS 11.2 :)

Thank you, @zzmadd for posting this thread. According to @shuhung , HEVC encoding is not supported on hacks with only iGPU. Any tools (like VideoProc) that report HEVC encoding support on our hacks are reporting incorrectly. On my HackMini8,1, VideoProc.app reports HEVC as "available" (in both Catalina and Big Sur) and I performed a HEVC encoding test with VideoPro (a test that appeared to work). Apparently, my test could not have been using Intel HEVC acceleration. For my test, I started with an 11.3MB H.264-encoded video and used VideoProc to HEVC-encode the video. The resulting video was 4.2MB (a 63% file size reduction) with no visible loss in video quality and playback of the resulting video is flawless. I believe this means that the HEVC encoding was successful, but based on what @shuhung explained, VideoProc must have been implementing "software" encoding? I'm not sure.

For any further HEVC discussion, lets use @zzmadd thread here .

Ahh the goose chase is over...

EDIT: I was able to configure RAID1 on this G5 Mini, but it's Intel RAID which is not compatible with macOS. This was a great deal, but don't purchase an EliteDesk Mini for a MacOS RAID hack.
--------------------------------------------------------------
I need a high-reliablity hack, so I recently purchased an EliteDesk 800 G5 Mini i7-9700 32GB for a little over $400 USD (these are definitely the best value hacks when you find them used and in good condition). Since the G5 has 2 x M.2 2280 slots suitable for NVMe SSDs, I am hoping to install macOS on RAID1. This particular unit includes the SATA drive bay / drive cooling fan, so I also plan to perform my modification here for TimeMachine and extra storage.

Quite a steal you got there. Mine was an i5 with 16gb I got for about this price!

In looking this model up on Amazon I was surprised at how much you can fit inside this tiny, mini form factor.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XTPGXC8/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

An RX 560 4GB, 2TB NVME, 8 core i9 CPU and 64GB DDR4 ram.
That's a serious desktop hackintosh but also at a very steep price.
Maybe this Amazon seller is raising his price too high ? By about 600-700 dollars.
