[Success] AMD RX6000 Series working in macOS

Just tried my 6800XT in eGPU on Big Sur 11.2 (16" MacBook Pro) - no display at all.

I know there's no acceleration for it etc but is there a way to at least get an (non-accelerated) image? I'd like my second screen to at least be usable for text or something...

For information i boot too on Big Sur 11.2 on my 6800XT (no kext loading & no acceleration).
but no boot with 11.3 (beta 1)
-> error with PerfPowerService & Radeon6000FrameBuffer so no WindowServer and not booting with X.

Same config work perfectly with Vega 56 on both 11.2 et 11.3.

Hope next MacOS beta or updated weg & lilu will help soon

can't boot 11.3 (beta 1) with my 6900XT neither, working on 11.2 without the acceleration of course, but I at least can boot properly.

is there someone who can boot on 11.3 beta 1 with RX 6XXX(XT)?

This is because they removed the controller for Navi21 from the framebuffer which has the display port power policies. You can however use Screenshare from another Mac/Hack and see the desktop without acceleration of course, since Screenshare is virtual display ports.

Another thing you could consider trying is putting the old Radeon into an eGPU and connecting it to thunderbolt. But you may have to flash your controller to activate thunderbolt bus for it to work in macOS... just a thought if you don’t want to have to keep opening your case when you want to run windows vs Mac.

The more I'm seeing about RX6000 series support probably being a long way off, the more this idea has been going round my head. Would THIS do the job? I guess there's no way of knowing if I'd have to flash the Thunderbolt controller until I got it and tried it, is there? Flashing the controller always sounded a bit beyond my limited expertise!

This code refactoring and the fact it's not working is actually encouraging, that means they're actively working on it.

"Macs require macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 or later and compatible AMD graphics card"

Emphasis on compatible. It's still reliant on drivers, it's just an external enclosure.

Yes, I mean to put my 580 in so I don’t have to keep opening the case and swapping GPUs for Windows vs Mac

11.3 B1 was designed with attempt to eliminate big navi hackintoshers haha

yeah, won't be a surprise if it's so
esp. now that we have more options with powerful Ryzens
