@apfelnico found the solution for the boot issues on big sur and the error code 97.

"It seems Apple's new USB-ASMedia connection is broken. We use "ASMedia2142" on our boards, but Apple's driver is for "ASMedia3142". This driver runs first, then it doesn't run anymore on further reboots. Then the higher-level driver takes over, and it doesn't work with our chip. But the old working "AppleUSBXHCIPCI" is still in the system, which is included with Catalina. We can fix this by loading this Kext for the ASMedia controllers."
Hello S1lla,

I bought a ORICO usb 3.2 2x2 20Gb/s pcie card, it works perfectly on Catalina but Bog Sur does not detect this card

i tried the asmedia.kext with no luck, i even tried to change the info.plist to match the asm3242, with no luck to

Do you know any solution to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance

Successfully "upgraded" to 11.2...

Tip number one: If you are planning on "backing up" your install before an upgrade by cloning to another empty drive using a bit level tool like dd - it is VERY important not to mix up your source and destination drives!

Shouldn't have started that half asleep and late at night, I can laugh about it now, but last night I was spitting feathers.

Top tip number two: Keep a backup of your EFI somewhere other than your desktop!

In the end I used a handy tool called Testdisk in linux which allowed me to scan and find the start and end points of the EFI partition at least and recover that, didn't work for the APFS containers but at least my working good EFI was recovered. Finally up and running again now but taken a lot longer than it should have.

I would not suggest my upgrade method.

Has anyone dealt with a stuck indexing bar?
I have tried a few things and nothing is working including mounting the main volume and deleting the spotlight file as well as adding the Big Sur drive in the privacy tab.

This is a fresh install of Big Sur.

Fixed this by doing exactly above the second time. haha

Just to keep you informed that I still have USB Audio hiccups and scratches with Focusrite 2i2 3rd Gen, bug introduced with 11.1 and still there in 11.2

An error in Console regarding coreaudiod happens when it scratches.

Already tried disabling Serial Port in BIOS with no luck. If anyone got hints that will be much appreciated.

any chance you could record the problem? Same mobo, no issue

Attached 2 screens of the error happening in Console. Please keep in mind that, weirdly, the error doesn't occur when I got an H264 video playin. Keeping the GPU decoding an H264 flow seems to fix the problem while playing.

Ask me anything you need, this is driving me crazy.

A lot of people posted here and there about the same error, even on ******, but a part from the Serial Port disabling (that doesn't fix the issue for some neither for me) no one seems to have other clues.

Throw mine on a USB stick and boot from there.
The only thing I would say is get rid of the TB3 aml unless you have a patched TB3 controller. And also cosmetic DeviceProperties can be modified to suit your needs. Also adjust USB kext to make sure your Fenvi card's BT USB connection is proper.

My setup is as bare minimum as it can be in terms of the EFI with no added fluff.
Finally i made it work with your EFI (You made it!). The only thing i see is because i changed from iMacPro1,1 to MacPro7,1 Smbios and i get this notification:

It detects i have 8x16GB, but not sure if everything is working or if it just uses 4 of the 8 modules. Do you have the same problem? Is there any fix for this?

Translation:

128GB Installed

Your mac have 8 memory slot, each one with 1 module of 3200MHz DDR4.

Atention!

Your mac has more installed memory than allowed. Until it have a maximum of 768GB of installed memory, the mac will only use one memory module.

interesting. I had scratching sounds on a catalina beta, but disable serial port did work for me. What bios version do you use?

Latest, the one actually current, but it was exactly the same with the previous one. Haven't tried the oldest 2002 but that's really old and my EFI is now totally adapted to the new RTC range stuff. This thing is driving me crazy, everything else works flawless, even Apple watch unlock!
