[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Offhand I don’t recall the remedy we used for this in the past, but please try changing SMBIOS name to iMacPro1,1 as mentioned by @Inqnuam. No need to change serial numbers. Just change the name temporarily to see what happens.
I did this, still the same problem.

Has anyone tried this command ? IDK but it may be the same for mediaanalysisid too.

Code:
sudo launchctl remove com.apple.photoanalysisd

To reenable it:

Code:
sudo launchctl load com.apple.photoanalysisd
I tried this, and even if the terminal confirmes "disabled", the daemon still comes up after some minutes.

I wonder if deleting the photo library file and rebuilding it might solve the underlying problem? (Volunteers should of course fully back up their system before doing this.)

After going to the extreme of completely fresh install 11.2 on a sepratae SSD with the same OC like on the system nVME and exactly the same error occured, I narrowed it down to the mediaanalysisd daemon. I read quite a bit on the net about it, apparently this is more specifcaly looking at videos in the photo library - but correct me if I'm wrong.

On the completely fresh install of 11.2, I logged into iCloud, turned on the Photo sync. It satrted to sync to the cloud and all photos/videos appeared. Then mediaanalysisd kicked in and 2 minutes later it crashed.

I disabled iCloud Photos, deleted the Photos library file all together. Restarted Photos.app, it asks me where the library file is, I say create new. So with the new empty library file mediaanalysisd never comes up at all - and no more crashes!

I did the same in my main nVME system install, so now I don't have iCloud Photos on and the Photos library is empty. And no crash!

I wonder what this strange behaviour is. Don't you all sync your pictures with iCloud? and none of you has this issue? Maybe I have some wicked pictures/videos in my iCloud? Or some video file is causing the daemon to crash...?

So the only workarround for me is to not sync my iCloud Photos - which is not satisfying at all, given that it was working in Catalina. What is Big Sur doing wrong here - if at all. I want my Photos sync back! :D

Any ideas?

thanks

@plattine,

I have never enabled iCloud Photos and never plan to do so. I use Photo Stream that syncs the last 1000 photos.

My photo library is quite large and I keep one backup on a RAID-5 storage array and another backup on a 10TB USB hard drive that can be kept at a family member’s home (offsite backup).

@CaseySJ, you do practice what you preach!:clap: Backup of the backup. I had a high end RAID-5 array go bad in a professional environment. I will never trust a single appliance again.

@CaseySJ
1.0.7
test it please
and tell me that it works :rolleyes:
if possible make it crash

Looks pretty good. Although, I agree that it needs to read volume names.

I might ne completely wrong here but with that kind of behaviour you never know.
Did you test your RAM ?
My last build was behaving completely wrong and after many attempts to fix the software, it was indeed the hardware that was faulty.
My 2 cents.

Anyone using Mac Ppro 7,1 as an SMBIOS and finding Thunderbolt with Titan Ridge working?

It would have to be tested, but I don't think this is actually related to iCloud. I think as soon as one has pictures and videos in the Photo library, no matter where they come from, this daemon will start up and scan.

As you seem to use photo stream only, you shouldn't have any videos in your library and the mediaanalysisd would never come up.
It would be useful if some other users with complex photo libraries came up with their experiences. But this would be a separate thread then.

As for now, I will live with it and experiment a bit.

thanks.

@CaseySJ

Hmmm, I can't get 0.6.6. to work. It freezes after I've entered my FileVault password. Any idea how to fix it?

Could you try to boot with Safe mode ?
