[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Kind of at my wits end here, Just trying to get a usable Big Sur with TB (Hotplug would be nice, but not imperative).
I hope I'm not breaking any rules for asking here! Kindly redirect me if I'm in the wrong spot. I have spent weeks on this.
You have come to the right place. Whether we can fix the problem or not is another matter!

Z390 Designare with BIOS F9G. All BIOS settings as per this thread, config files taken from this thread.
9900K
Sapphire RX 5700 XT
OpenCore 6.5
Internal M.2 2T and 1T SSDs
Everything works but Thunderbolt devices. I have not flashed the controller (ordered the unit to do so) The TB devices will not connect to the mb. Further, I have a powered dock that will not power up if connected to the machine via TB.
I was running Mojave prior with these same TB devices working (including hotplug), but now nothing.
Okay let's proceed like this:
  • First of all, flashing the controller is not necessary. If those devices were working under Mojave then they should also work under Big Sur. There are some exceptions, however, such as Apple's Thunderbolt-to-Gigabit adapter because it uses an Ethernet controller that is no longer supported.
  • Perform a CMOS Reset. Then configure all BIOS parameters starting always with F7 (Load Optimized Defaults). Make sure that:
    • BIOS Setup --> Boot --> CFG-Lock is disabled
    • BIOS Setup --> Thunderbolt --> GPIO3 Force Pwr is enabled
    • BIOS Setup --> Thunderbolt --> Thunderbolt Security is No security
  • Then check Thunderbolt devices once again.
    • If they don't work, download and run IORegistryExplorer and select File --> Save As... to save the IOReg file. Post that file.
  • Also list the makes/models of all Thunderbolt devices you are trying to connect.

Wow, such a fast reply! Thanks so much. Figured I'd send the IOReg asap as I have it already. I'll reset the CMOS now.

That's a tough call...
  • It is safe to experiment with latest WEG and other kexts by using a USB Flash Disk. All changes should be made to the EFI partition of the USB flash disk.
  • The workflow you described might even be a challenge for a real Mac so if latest WEG and other drivers don't help, it might be best to leave well-enough alone.
Hopefully you're using OpenCore instead of Clover because latest EFI (w/OC 0.6.5) is available for download from one of the mini-guides in this thread.
Thank you Casey. No, I'm not using OpenCore. I can do another full install using OpenCore. I don't know much about it.

Success. it appears as though the CMOS reset was needed. I turned off the powered dock, powered it on, then powered on the machine and they were recognized. The front panel TB port does not appear to be working now, am I missing something else perhaps?

Glad to hear it. The front panel has a USB-C port that will only accept USB 3.0 devices. Thunderbolt devices, of course, will not work there.

If a USB-C port has a lightning logo next to it, then it will accept Thunderbolt devices.

Fortunately we can switch to OpenCore just by using a new EFI folder. No need to reinstall macOS.

Although there's no rush to do this, the general procedure is as follows:
  • Find a USB Flash Disk with an EFI Partition. Or simply use Disk Utility to format a USB Flash Disk with "Scheme" = "GUID Partition Map".
  • Mount EFI Partition of USB Flash Disk.
  • Download OpenCore 0.6.5 EFI folder from the Mini-Guide.
  • Follow instructions in that mini-guide. In Step 5 use the Hackintool website to copy serial numbers from your Clover config.plist into Z390 Designare OC 065 AMD GPU - Casey SJ. This is one of the choices in the pop-up menu (see screenshot in Step 5).
  • When everything has been copied to EFI Partition on USB Flash Disk, reboot the system and press F12 at BIOS Splash Screen to open the BIOS Boot Menu.
    • Select the USB flash disk
    • Now you'll see the new OpenCore Picker
    • Boot macOS

Well that explains a lot. Missed that little detail! Thanks so much for the assist. Last question I promise, did I read that there is actually a way to make the onboard wifi for the Designare Z390 work now? I am using a Fenvi card now, but would love to ditch it!

@CaseySJ, I am taking advantage of the OC 0.6.6 release tomorrow to finally make the switch from Clover to OC. Is What sort of changes would be necessary here to account for my Extreme motherboard, Z390 Auorus Xtreme. Also, what do I do about the kexts I had installed in L/E/? Also I have a few SSDTs for CNVi, USB mapping, and Thunderbolt - I take it I still use these same SSDTs?

Thanks in advance, I am excited to be making this switch, but it seems a bit daunting

Also, Do I need all of these SSDTs?

In particular, beforehand, I was not using TB3-HackinDROM, PLUG, NVRAM, and USBW

Hi guys,

For some weeks, I, too, am struggling with Antelope Audio Thunderbolt 3 incompatibility on a hackintosh.
I’m here enclosing an IOregistryExplorer report from a MacBook Pro regularly working with the device together with the hackintosh’s one. Hope that some good hearted among you can really help me to get out from this nightmare.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

We know that so far is not solved, nevertheless unfortunately USB band can't handle any professional music project! The only thing we can do in order to try to solve the issue, is sharing our info in the community. In our particular case the problem seems to be apparently so "banal": the OS see the device, but just doesn't recognize it as a soundcard. Guess somebody who got a very deep hardware skills might make it. However thank you all for whatever contribution or advice you can share!
@CaseySJ if you please could take a look, I would appreciate it. Thanks!
