Try to find ThunderboltEX II/DUAL card. Thunderbolt Display will work with it out of the box.

Does it support 5K and full usb functions? (audio, camera, USB Hub, brightness control)

You always need an SSDT, Flashing it enables the Thunderbolt bus that I think is needed to make the Thunderbolt display to work. The Titan is what I am telling you to use the alpine ridge might work with just SSDT. Flashed alpine messes up the video pass thought needed. So, if it works, it would work with an SSDT only. I would seriously read about the Thunderbolt as it will give you a lot of insight into different things regarding TB3.
Sry for reviving this old thread, but I've seen your comments around and you seem to know what you're talking about.
I just flashed my Alpine Ridge (on-board controller for Designare Ex X299), because I was not able to get TB to work reliably without it.

Hot-plugging finally works, and so does sleep (for the most part). However, I can't get USB-C connectivity out of it. Do you have any idea how this could be fixed? Is this an USB Mapping issue?

Also is there any way that the Alpine Ridge could ever allow for video pass-through? Seems crazy that its not possible...

Seems like its just a matter of updating the NVM21-V3 (by @NorthAmTransAm) firmware, no?

I only really know what I have experienced... That said my experience did not allow video pass threw on a Alpine Ridge Add in card, that could be totally different from it working with an On board. However, I have very little express with the Alpine ridge AIC and none with the onboard. For the most part when my Titain Ridge AIC worked exactly how I wanted I stopped messing with the alpine ridge card in fact it is sitting in a drawer. If memory serves me correctly I needed to get the device properties from hackntool for the USB controller on the Alpine and add them to my config file before the USB worked on the alpine ridge. I am guessing you need some kind of USB SSDT or Kext file to make the USB work for the onboard controller.

Hi, I also flashed my alpine card everything is working flawless. Video passthrough, and USB-C is fixed with a proper USB mapping :) I'm sure I can find the firmware I did flash my card with if you want it?
